It is difficult not to just echo other reviewers, but this is truly a beautiful and inspiring book. I actually purchased this book for my sister (based on the Amazon reviews), as I am not an artist or even artistically inclined. But I ended up reading this book cover to cover before she even started it. Each chapter offers creative inspiration for many areas of life. I approached the thoughts in this book as a writer and dancer and found her words of wisdom to be equally applicable to my areas of creativity. The chapters are short and simple, meant for reflection and meditation over time. She also offers quotes and pages for journaling answers to questions that capture the concepts of each chapter. Though I am not an artist, I love collages and have actually been inspired to try some of her exercises. I also love the design of the book as well as her works which are featured throughout. Just a beautiful book to look through and read again often for inspiration. I am ordering my own copy for sure.

I got this book on a whim and am so glad that I did. I read some reviews that called it substance-less and fluffy and now, after having read it for myself, I couldn't disagree more! This book is packed full of inspiration and first-hand accounts of how one very talented woman came to find her own wings. I admire that; that helps me to see more of myself and how I, too, might be able to do likewise. The art projects included in the book are so refreshing and I love that they all make use of old things, things that might otherwise be forgotten. This book is a great resource to use to journey within yourself, if you will allow it to do that for you. I plan to use it often, even when I've completed all the exercises included. The quotations and inspirations make it a life-long must-have. I will refer to it again and again and again. Thank you, Kelly!

This book is one of the first art/craft books I've bought that's everything it's purported to be. The art inside is beautiful and the instructions for each project are easy to understand and come with lists of materials for each project. The instructions are gorgeously, carefully illustrated and easy to understand, whether you're a novice or an experienced collage artist. (Garbled instructions is a problem I've had with other craft books). I love the fabulous page of quotes at the end of each chapter and the journal page, winged thoughts. This book is a terrific guide for anyone wanting to expand their creativity or learn some new art techniques. The creative resources at the back of the book are quite helpful and thorough, including websites, supply sources, art retreats and crafty magazines. If you're looking for a book that will help you grow your creative wings, then this is the one for you. You'll be taking flight and fearlessly jumping off slippery, painted cliffs before you know it!!

Kelly says in her introduction: "So, come along with me as we find our creative wings and take flight toward the sky of our bliss-filled inspiration - a place where your spirit will soar" This book definitely delivers on that statement. A beautiful book filled with page after page of gorgeous artwork, inspiring techniques and interesting prompts and quotes to get your creative spirit flowing. Designed to be an interactive experience with pages called "Winged Thoughts". These blank pages are ready for you to write in your own answers and responses to the questions and prompts presented on them. But there's so much more in this book that just questions and prompts. You'll find pages of mixed media techniques and projects to experiment with as well. Recommended for any artist working in any medium.

What an incredible book... more than inspirational... it's insight*full as well. I love the combination of narrative and how-to. The pictures of the steps along side the instructions are incredible and the invitation to express yourself is irresistable. The chapters coincide with life's journey and things we universally experience (but often feel as if we're the only ones...). I find something different each time I open the book and it never ceases to inspire. Thoughtfully put together, each chapter and page is a treasure. The paper is gorgeous to touch and each page a colorful work of art... even the pages that are predominately narrative. Thank you, Kelly Rae, for sharing your gift and your vision.

I've been wanting to do "art" for the longest time. I'd bought 2 mixed-media type books before this one, while they were interesting, this book is in a league of it's own. I did read some of the book, but was completely taken by the projects. The author describes the projects very well and the photos with detailed captions are extremely helpful. So... one day I started a project! Quite honestly, it was scary. What if I made a mistake? What if it turned out ugly? Once I began creating art, it was so relaxing & enjoyable. I couldn't wait to try a few of the techniques. So far, I've made 2 projects and I've made mistakes, but I've learned if I don't like how something looks, I can paint over it! I can only write from a beginner's perspective, and as a beginning wannabe artist, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. This will undoubtedly be my go-to source for ideas and techniques.

This book is fantastic. I was a fan of Kelly Rae before I bought the book - the book has only increased my admiration of her talent. I had expected a book of 'how to's" but I feel that the way the book is set out, with a 'project' at the end of each chapter is still a success. It is also interesting to be exposed to other artists and see how they work. The illustrations are gorgeous and the book is of a high quality. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to learn new techniques or the reader who just likes deliciously illustrated books. Everyone will be satisfied.

I read about 'Taking Flight' by Kelly Rae Roberts in an article about another artist and she said how amazing this book was. At the time I had just come out of hospital from a near death accident. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and when I did it was worth every cent. This book helped me realise that I was going round in circles with my life and not following my dreams and my accident was not only a second chance but a wake up call. It would be inspirational to anyone even if you are not an artist or her art is not your style, she just has a way with words that hits home. It is not only inspirational but also packed with interesting techniques to try. I have read this book over and over and would recommend it to anyone. Kelly is a beautiful person and artist, Happy reading! :O)

A ustedes les llegó en blanco y negro?? Es muy decepcionante que un libro de Kelly Rae Roberts esté todo en gris!! Precisamente el atractivo es el COLOR! Además parece un libro fotocopiado. Lo regresaré. I’ve received a black and white version 😡 and it looks like a copy quality paper.

oh my god ...this book is a little bit of literal and visual artistic heaven. I can't put it down. By far the best art book I have ever purchased. Its uplifting, beautifully composed .I have have shown all my visitors to my art gallery they all love it too. I could go on and on about whats in it but I think you need to buy it to see for yourself and be surprised by its sheer brilliance.Its a keeper !!!

J'ai d'abord emprunté ce livre en kindle avant de décider de l'acheter et depuis il ne me quitte plus. L'édition papier est magnifique et très inspirante de part la beauté de la mise en page. Vous n'y trouverez pas pléthore d'exercices pratiques mais ceux proposés sont suffisamment bien choisis et expliqués pour donner des ailes à votre créativité. Moi qui n'avait jamais réussi à terminer un projet mixed media qui me satisfasse j'ai réussi avec le premier exercice à créer un tableau que j'ai envie d'accrocher à mon mur ! La magie du livre réside dans la façon dont l'auteur décrit son parcours, ses inspirations, ses doutes, et vous encourage à surmonter vos peurs et vos blocages. Simplement en lisant ses récits, quelque chose de passe en vous qui libére des points de blocage qui vous empêchaient de créer. Ce livre est devenu l'un de mes trésors. De ceux que l'on gardera toujours près de soi au fil des années.
