Review: Brilliant... nothing less than brilliant - My favorite band has long been STYX, as my favorite musician of any and all genre's has always been Tommy Shaw. Other favorite bands have included the Bill Bruford/ Rick Wakeman incarnations of YES, the Terry Kath era CHICAGO and others. Never, would I have included the band QUEEN among them, although I liked several of their songs. My perception of what constituted this band, in hindsight, was horribly mistaken. Never had I realized that among such pomposity as BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST and FAT BOTTOM GIRLS, that the band had incredible depth and intellect that far exceeded "MY BEST FRIEND"... until now. Listening first to many of the lesser known songs (albeit hits in their own rights), the depth of introspection and spirituality just astonished me. Listening then to the commentaries from Brian May and Roger Taylor opened my eyes to the idealogoes, the myths and the truths about some of their music which garnered my respect. From their, opening my ears to the later albums, I was truly blown away by the sincerity and intelligence of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon. It almost seems to me that once they decided to share writing credits, that they finally gelled as a single unit (instead of a band of 4 contrasting musicians) and wrote their best music... indisputably their most heart-felt music. I can now understand the hullabaloo about QUEEN in the late 70's and 1980's and argue along with most QUEEN fans to beleive that QUEEN was the best rock and roll band of that era. JOURNEY, REO SPEEDWAGON, BAD COMPANY and all others just could not hold a candle to QUEEN. STYX in their best years made for great competition, but STYX' best years were few before the band divided into a group of "contrasting musicians." QUEEN carried on until death did they part... and only got better with age. If you are a true QUEEN fan, you already own this fabulous DVD set (QUEEN's GREATEST VIDEO HITS 1 & 2)... If you are not, YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF to buy this and see and hear what was best about the so-called arena rock/ progressive rock/ anthemic rock era. QUEEN was far more than their pomposity. They were a genuine, talented band that made great music across many spectrums (which is what I liked best about STYX.) Review: The Very Best Of Queen's Music - If you are a Queen fan like me and want all of their hist and more, look no farther. This is the only collection you will need. 33 original promotion videos on 2 DVD discs. That is what they called them back before the days of MTV. But they are the same videos you saw on MTV and VH1 back in the stone aged 80's. It is obvious that the videos were never cleaned up or remastered. Don't get me wrong. They all look great. But some have grain and over vivid color. But the audio tracks are offered in PCM 2.0 Stereo and DTS 96KHz/24bit 5.1 Surround. All tracks are remastered and remixed in real 5.1 Surround. And it is breathtaking. The remix sounds more like it was mixed for the old 4 channel Quad albums. I don't hear much from the center speaker, but the 4 front and back speakers are alive with the cleanest audio and the widest discrete separation I have heard from a music DVD in a long time. The sound quality is audiophile fantastic. I originally bought this DVD for a video copy of Bohemian Rhapsody. I was stunned when I heard the 5.1 channel separation of this song. I only hoped that the rest of the videos had equal quality. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. After I listened to all 33 videos, I started at the beginning and watched them again. The song "Bicycle Race" is the only one which may not be appropriate for the kiddies. It does contain some mild nudity of women riding bicycles naked. No sex or full frontal nudity. Just a few boobs and butts. But the rest of this collection is for the whole family. This is the must have Queen collection for any fan. I can't believe I only paid $14.00 for this DVD. The song titles included are as follows.... Disc One: 1. Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Another One Bites The Dust 3. Killer Queen 4. Fat Bottomed Girls 5. Bicycle Race (Rated PG-13 for mild nudity) 6. You're My Best Friend 7. Don't Stop Me Now 8. Save Me 9. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 10. Somebody To Love 11. Spread Your Wings 12. Play The Game 13. Flash 14. Tie Your Mother Down 15. We Will Rock You 16. We Are The Champions Disc Two: 1. A Kind Of Magic 2. I Want It All 3. Radio Ga Ga 4. I Want To Break Free 5. Breakthru 6. Under Pressure 7. Scandal 8. Who Wants To Live Forever 9. The Miracle 10. It's A Hard Life 11. The Invisible Man 12. Las Palabras De Amor (The Words Of Love) 13. Friends Will Be Friends 14. Body Language 15. Hammer To Fall 16. Princes Of The Universe 17. One Vision

Very deserving of trillions of stars!
I love love love love Queen's Greatest Video Hits dvd! It has a few scratches on it, but it plays beautifully. The sound quality is perfect, and so it the visual. The dvd case is battered up, but it keeps the 2 dvds in place in the middles. It comes with a booklet that includes what videos/songs are on it, photos of the group and all their album covers. The dvd set arrived at my home in about 2-3 days, with the prime membership I had bought. I know it doesn't exist, but I give both the seller and this dvd set trillions of stars. Thank you ever so much, I really enjoy it!

Screen sizing problems but great otherwise
So first off, basically everything on the DVD is something you can find on YouTube. So if you just want to watch it for the sake of watching it, then head over there. If you're collecting Queen pieces, then I'd definitely go for the product, especially at such a cheap price. I'd also like to start by saying that I won the Greatest Video Hits Vol 1 from it's original release which is basically disc 1 of this package. It is also not produced anymore, which makes a new copy about $75. So I wanted to take the opportunity to compare Vol 1 to this collection. I quick popped it in to see what everyone was talking about with the widescreen-fullscreen problem and I definitely see it. They basically zoomed in on the fullscreen so it would fit a widescreen TV, completely disregarding the aspect ratio. In the Vol 1, it is just plan old fullscreen without any editing going on, so there's an advantage to that. However, I only noticed this weird ratio going on with the first disc. Disc 2's ratio was perfectly fine, and I checked it with the YouTube videos for most of them. The video quality is also the same as on YouTube. There's no enhancement or anything, which is notable in some of the videos. That doesn't bother me at all because I'm use to the grainy quality and distortion of video from that time. So if you're fine with that and not expecting enhancement, then you're good to go. There was no difference in video quality between the two releases. What I found interesting from Vol 1 to this product, besides the aspect ratio, was Bicycle Race. In Vol 1, they completely destroy the video, doing a weird color scheme to the shadows that blot out everything as well as an infinity mirror type of filter to block images. I understand wanting to keep things PG, but it wasn't the original content. In this one, they actually kept the video the same without censoring. I'm not sure if the public, or even Queen complained, but that was changed for this release. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the collection. Just that annoying aspect ratio on the first disc bothers me a little. But I guess I have Vol 1 for that.

The videos you can't see anymore
It was neat to see the band at different stages of becoming an iconic band, and the progression of the quality of the production of the videos. The band was around when MTV started so you can see the rather unimaginative early videos progress to the more highly polished genre. I wish they were in time order, but that's ok. (Of course they are low def because of the time period). Having seen the live, it brings back those crazy times, (you know, the ones we still can't tell our kids about).

superb sound
What a great collection of Queen videos. As an avid Queen fan since their beginning, I was pleasantly surprised to find tracks that I had never heard before. The videos are original TV quality, but the re-mastered sound is superb, at least when played on my Klipsch 2.1 speaker system.

Stellar DVD
This product is a Christmas gift for my 9-year-old granddaughter who just LOVES Queen. However, I already own a copy and it is absolutely stellar! If you love Queen, and even if you don't, you'll love this DVD. It's videos of most of their hits - they had so many - 16 on the first disc, and 17 on the second one. Queen's song catalogue is humongous, so 33 songs just barely scratch the surface of the genius and magnificence of this band, but it's a wonderful start. Roger Taylor's songwriting didn't really start to come into its own until later on in the band's history, so the first disc doesn't have any of his compositions on it, but the second one has five of them - all of them monster hits. It's a great collection of songwriting from all four members, though - each song unique and distinct from any of the others - yet unmistakably Queen. A pretty good sampling of why Queen's music has stood the test of time, and why we're still rockin' out to their music 50 years later from the time the band was formed. Pound for pound, the most multi-talented band on the planet.
