Best product for slicked back or combover, stays malleable, low sheen
As a recovering โhigh end hair productsโ user with a very sensitive scalp and persnickety styling preferences, I do believe Iโve found my new favorite. I used shu uemura products until they discontinued not one, but both of the products I liked. One of them was replaced with a solid product, but it is still very expensive and doesnโt quite do exactly what I would like. I have medium length super straight hair with a ton of volume. I wear the slicked back / classic combover type style. Itโs been challenging to find something that weighs my hair down without looking like I havenโt showered in days, remains malleable throughout the day, and gives a bit of shine. OโDouds, upon first use, is perfect for me, aside from the scent. I donโt love the scent. I actually bought two different โnaturalโ or plant based products to use and compare after extensive research on reviews and ingredients. The โotherโ product smells amazing but is going straight in the trash after first use due to the fact it leaves my hair dry and fuzzy (odd for a pomade I must say). So back to the scent, itโs very โlemonyโ which is why I donโt use American crew fiber. It is very similar in that aspect (also American crew products make my head itchy). That is where the similarities end. OโDouds is superior to many other products I have used and midrange on the price so Iโll be sticking with this for now. The scent does dissipate quickly once applied and styled. I wish I could take the caramel musk scent from the other product and apply it to the superior ingredients and functionality of the OโDouds. But due to the fact that it dissipates quickly and I donโt walk around smelling like mosquito repellent, I can live with it. Solid product for half the price of my previous product. Iโm happy with the results. It is a little tougher to wash out, but that doesnโt bother me. It is also water RESISTANT so hopefully I donโt look like a homeless person the moment I walk out in the rain like other products. It is a little tougher to work into my thick assed hair as well but I expected that from a product that can hold it all in place as I would prefer without drying out or flaking or losing all composure at the first hint of any precipitation. I also play music and perform under hot lights and have yet to find a product that remains malleable for a restyle after leaving the stage. I think this is really going to cut it for that issue as well. Will add a picture when Iโm freshly styled. Right now I look like Harry from Harry and the Hendersonโs after sleeping with the other product in my hair. EDIT - added photos. Photo on the left is actually the next morning. Ran my fingers through and restyled after coffee and it pops right back into place. Photo on the right is later in the day, after chores and wearing a beanie all day. This stuff is the real deal, for this kind of style anyway. At the moment Iโm at two full days and head still not itchy. Amazing.

Always one of the bestโeven more so with the newest generation.
O'Douds pretty much created this type of pomade. Prior, you had water based that were more gelatin-like texture (i.e. Lay-rite, Suavecito) and oil/wax-based that were really hard to wash out, but held well (i.e. Goon Grease.) O'Douds created, a now popular style, of a water-based that acts like an oil based in texture and hold, while remaining like a water-basedโas in, it's still easy to wash out. I was so excited to try the new formulation out, and was not disappointed. It's super easy to spread now. It still has that icing type consistency, but spreads easily and goes through your hair no problem. It's not a super-hold, this is still not a true oil or wax (hence the name leaning it towards water-based still) but I feel it holds very well, while still allowing your hair to move and look natural. I don't go for the stiff pomp look, and if that's what your hair style is this probably is not the pomade for you. But, if you like to style your hair with hold that can easily be restyled and moved when wanted, this is the stuff. The only downside to the original O'Douds Water Based was how hard it was to spread in your hands. (If you had the original formula you know what I'm talking about.) Basically, after scooping a little into your palms, you would rub your hands together and the water would separate from the other ingredients. This didn't make it impossible to use but you really had to focus on getting it re-mixed and spread in your hands after separation, which was time consuming and annoyingโBUT THAT HAS BEEN FIXED! I lean more towards oil-based now, as I like the hold and look, but I HATE HATE HATE (yes, that much hate) how hard oil/wax based pomades are to wash from your hands after application. No one ever talks about this. They always talk about how hard/easy pomades are to wash out of your hair, but I could care less because I like a two or three days of build-up before washing and starting again. But washing your hands needs to be done after every application and oil/wax based literally take so much soap and gunk up hand towels easily. If you have this concern too, you can rejoice. This O'Douds Water Based washes away from your hands easily with a little soap and water. Smells great, holds well, easily to apply, easy to wash hands after. A+ O'Douds.

Overall I am happy with it
I bought this product based on some reviews I read online. Overall I am happy with it, but at the end of the day the experience with the product is very dependent on the hairstyle. The pomade has a decent smell and a fairly pasty thick consistency, if a bit on the dry side. It goes into the hair fairly smoothly and combing not a lot of resistance when combing through. It settles into a fairly pliable consistency, and has decent holding power even for stray short hairs that tend to stick out. If you are expecting oil-based heavy hold, then this is not the product for you, but it washes out much easier.

Ainโt what they used to be
Well I will not be buying from OโDouds again. I really feel ripped off. I decided to compare this to my previous purchase and was shocked what they did. First, they have decreased the amount in each jar by 15% and are charging the same amount. (Check out the photo). Also, you now get it in some cheap aluminum tin instead of the nice glass one, which doesnโt keep a great seal because mine was delivered very dry. Both are recyclable so I canโt see that as an issue or are they trying to save money on shipping? How could a company that is supposed to feel independent use big corporate tactics. I have been using this product for 6 years now. This will be my last. Unbelievable poor taste!!

Amazing NATURAL pomade! Finally!
I absolutely LOVE this product. I have always been a pomade user and favored Layrite but I wanted something more natural without all of the harmful chemicals found in Layrite. I did some research and decided to order this. I will buy it again and again and again. Not only is it homemade, in an impressive (old school) jar, and it smells great (manly herb smell with a hint of eucalyptus)....but this stuff works! It is a bit difficult to spread in your palms at first but after trial and error a few times, you'll get the hang of it (usually works best for me when slowly applying pressure in between the palms). Once you get it in your hair, it spreads easily and smoothly. It is easy to comb through and style in a pomp. I would say the shine is low and the hold is a medium to strong hold that also allows you to restyle throughout the day (if need be). It consistently holds up throughout the entire day (even through a vigorous bike ride workout). As far as the water based side of the product, it easily comes out with a shampooing, however, if you prefer to leave some in to build on for the next day (like me), you can simply wash with water and then add to it the following day. It really seems to be the perfect mix between an oil base and a water base (it doesn't harden into a wet looking gel like Layrite does). Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this product and HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to anyone who loves pomade but is looking for something more natural that is not going to harm your hair.

A regular pomade for me.
This is seriously some great stuff. Holds my pretty thick, slightly wavy hair in place just fine. It also gives you the freedom to play with the hold by using more or less while still getting great control with even a small amount. Once you figure out the sweet spot you'll find it locks up and holds just like an oil based. It does lose some hold throughout the day but it keeps the hair together with little to no strays. The shine is perfect for my taste, not a super fake looking shimmer-shine nor a dried out dead lack of shine; it makes your hair look healthy. All natural ingredients is definitely another plus, I hate the idea of putting something like suavecito or even petrol-based products in my hair and damaging it. I wasn't in love with the scent at first but that essential oil smell did start to grow on me. This product is also great if your someone like me who is always touching your hair. You will lose some hold by breaking up the bonded hair but it still looks natural/ controlled. And it doesn't feel as gross as an oil based or as crunchy as a water soluble. The only downside I can think of ( which you've probably heard in other reviews) is that rubbing it between your hands can be a bitch because of the water separating from the wax. I find pushing your palms together and moving your hands back and forth with steady pressure will sort of squeeze the water out. Once broken down though it applies easily. I will definitely buy this stuff again.

Very difficult to work with, not worth the effort
EDIT: Since my last review it seems O'Douds has reworked their formulation, it is now freaking amazing. I cant express how happy I am with how they have changed the product. No more chunky slippy spreading, super smooth and the smell is as manly as an eagles musk. My favorite pomade to date. Only con is the price of course, but damn its quality stuff. I was looking for a pomade that remained workable all day in my thick hair. I just flat out don't like it. the texture is odd. It is water based but very oily, applying it is harder then even Murrays, very difficult to work with in the hands. You literally have to work it into your hair in sections to get even coverage. The hold is rather good, but i do get hair pop-ups that have to wet it down throughout the day, which is ridiculous; I shouldnt have to worry about how may hair looks, and if things are poking up when I can't see them. I wanted to like it, but I can't. People who have thick hair like me who want a pomade that remains workable all day without water. Teddy Boy Original. All. The. Way.

Nice minty scented pomade, ok hold
Soft and easy to remove from the jar. Itโs a strange substance but easy to work with. It doesnโt dry your hair and it holds it well. Not much shine and it feels like a wax pomade in hair. Using shampoo I was able to wash it out with no problem. It will not come out with just water. Over all I don't have any complains. After a week of use I found its not holding as much as I would like it to. My hair is hard to manage and its requiring a lot of product to get the same result as other pomades. It has the right ingredients and results for a casual day to day pomade but the price will keep me from purchasing this for day to day use. I will be looking for another pomade.
