I have my bed on 6 inch risers and I bet it would probably fit. I have some pretty tall totes under my bed.

How far back does this recline?

It has 6 settings. You can set it at 15 30 45 60 85 and 90 degrees. To set at 90 degrees you just take the pin out on the side and put it in the hole at the top of the adjustment. 90 degrees will allow you to be fully inverted straight up and down.

How hard is it to assemble?

No it's not hard to assemble. The hardware is packaged by the letters in the instructions, step A,B,C etc. Just lay the parts all out before you start.
