Only had a days use so far...but....this player is absolutely awesome! Was VERY surprised at how solid it feels, it has a weighty feel to it and all the buttons click nicely, it's easy to use and mine is quite fast around the menus etc. Overall build quality seems great especially for the price...the sound quality, oh boy....get a decent set of headphones and put a decent flac file on it and it is amazing! The music is detailed, but smooth, there is nice separation between instruments and the vocals are great, I have my bose quietcomfort connected to it wired( if you have same bose headphone make sure you power it on even though your wired) and have set the equaliser to soft as it boosts the mids and treble slightly and this player beats my old and more expensive Sony hi res player for sound, metal like megadeth sound particularly good on this player but I'm also enjoying hiphop on it. The volume gets LOUD, I only need it on 40 out of 100 max and that is loud enough for me on this player with these bose headphones, ( again if you have bose wireless headphones, make sure you turn volume up on the headphones and then on the player to get best volume) I'm VERY surprised and happy all round with this player, it will please audiophiles with its sound, especially on metal but like I say, hiphop is also great, time will tell if it lasts but I hope it does, it feels like it will . 5/5 from me

Having just bought this recently, I thought I'd share a few observations and tips which may help you decide if you are considering buying one, or help you use the one you already have! I bought mine to replace my Sony NWA1200's, whose OLED screens have died, within months of each other. This is an ideal replacement, similar weight and size, and a proper line-out, so it does exactly what I want. Sound is superb with high level mp3 (256kb/s) or wave files, no issues there at all. The downsides? There are a few, most could be amended with firmware updates, I'm sure, but nothing that can't be lived with. Firstly, you can access songs/albums via “Music” or “Folder” options, BUT while “Folder” will let you get to everything, it does not sort it in any way, so folders appear in the order they were uploaded, it's best to bear this in mind when you start filling it. Worse, while mp3's are considered “Music”, wave files are not (Why?) and so cannot be accessed via “Music”, so make sure you have them arranged in an order you like. (More on this later, in “Tips”) Secondly, it seems to ignore track numbers on mp3 and wave files, so you have to name them with numbers at the start of the filename, and make sure you use leading zero's, or track 1 will be followed by 10, 11 etc before you get to track 2. I rip CD's with Exact Audio Copy, and you can default the filenames as nn xxx... which works, I'm sure other rip software can do this too. Thirdly, I tag files with mp3tag, but while this works for mp3, wave files can be tagged but it doesn't appear the M30 can see them. Fourthly, there are occasional blips that require a reset, using the hole in the side. I've had to do this when the unit is plugged into the computer, instead of connecting and acting like a mass storage device as it should, it drops into file update immediately and so doesn't connect. Another is that, after a sequence of actions I haven't figured out yet, the line-out resorts to “synch with volume” when it moves onto the next track, even though the menu says it's set to 0dB. In short, there are bugs that need fixing, nothing that I can't live with, but it's not perfect. Now to the Tips: 1/ Plan ahead, upload wave files first so they appear first in the “Folder” list, it'll save time when you're playing back. As I said, folders are listed in the order they were loaded BUT there is an alphabetizing option, available at Mechen's Youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@MECHENMP3/videos the key video being “M30 – How to sort folders Alphabetically” - the video demonstrates how to do it, using the Fatsorter software linked in the description (This is an old programme made by someone else, not a piece of Mechen software. There are other useful videos on there, inc. sorting rules used by the device. 2/ Firmware upgrades: While you can get these on the website listed in the manual, you will be better off getting them from Mechen's Google Drive, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Y9v8c6FLR5lbxLY-PhAv-BQOeQa2BNev which was opened Feb 8th. ALL the upgrades are there, with dates and descriptions of what they change. Note: you cannot have more than 1 firmware upgrade on the device, or upgrade will fail, and the upgrade you go to install must be called “MECHEN_M30.HEX” when copied to the device. If you have 2 files, your computer will rename 1 as “MECHEN_M30(1).HEX and it will be ignored. For some reason, Mechen don't seem to have grasped the concept of firmware upgrade numbering, so they all appear on the device as V1.101.10, but the date will also appear, and this allows you to know where your device is up to, firmware wise. The Google drive updates are: 2022-08-05 (Song sorting rules changed to follow music file title instead of ID3 information, Fast forward and rewind, play and pause, volume +- are all available in the lock screen except the button Menu and Return.), 2022-08-16 (Disable scroll wheel and all buttons in lock screen – This is the upgrade my device was on when shipped to me), 2022-09-14 (clockwise: next track, counterclockwise: previous track), 2022-11-17 (Add volume limit function), 2022-12-16 (Fix the boot volume bug: when the boot volume is 0, the volume cannot be raised) and 2023-02-20 (modified the sleep timer from a one-time setting to a permanent one) – That's 6 upgrades, and as of a few days ago, the last one wasn't on their website, even though it's clearly been on the Google drive account for at least a month.

This is a great little player with surprisingly impressive audio quality for the price. It handles lossless files very well and delivers a clean, balanced and detailed sound that I genuinely didn’t expect at this budget. One of the real strengths here is the customer support. It’s genuinely first-rate. I’ve contacted them a couple of times — not due to any fault, but for guidance on getting the best performance and understanding how the player handles files and folders. They replied quickly, clearly, and actually knew what they were talking about. This is my second M30 (my first one from March 2023 was recently damaged by water), and the support has been consistently excellent. The player itself is very well made: solid, nicely weighted and with buttons that feel positive and precise. The scroll wheel is especially useful for fast navigation through large libraries. A useful note for anyone with big music collections: using folder browsing and genre browsing allows far more tracks to be accessed than the “All Songs” mode does. And it works on a branded 512GB microSD card well. The Amazon description should be updated to say it supports 512GB. Overall: great sound, compact size, very strong value for money, and rare to find support this responsive these days. Highly recommended.

I have had my player for three months, the one currently on sale has different specs and is cheaper. Bought to listen to music occasionally while having my daily walk of 45 mins and to replace my I Pod classic, which was not holding a battery charge (and I was never happy at having to use i tunes to load music onto it). This player is very well built with a robust aluminum body. All the controls have a positive feel and work well. I find the sound quality as good as the ipod classic. The interface for selecting and playing music from the player is a bit clunky but works. Music can be loaded using drag and drop with the player connected to a PC or direct to the micro SD card, if you have a card reader. It is a bit fiddly to insert / remove the micro SD card, which would be my main gripe about this player. However, as it supports much larger cards than the 64GB supplied, I will just get a bigger card and fill that. Overall, it's a good player, has all the features I need, sounds good, looks like it is built to last. Finally, it has good battery life. I charged it in September, have used about a dozen times for periods of 30 to 60 mins and is still showing a bit more than half full.

Leaving previous review details here incase it helps. but it broke. didnt last a full 3 months. support is not available via amazon and they've not got back by the email they're suposed to. so i'm just out on my money. I just wouldnt risk it... Previous review was 3star: So, the instructions werent the clearest. it kept turning itself off while i was trying to do set up stuff, which it turns out was the sleep mode. i assumed sleep would be after a certain time inactive. no if it's set for 2 minutes the whole player turns off in 2 minutes even mid song. which is silly. The actual music option wont play music. MP3, WAv, WMV files, all that it says it supports it just says it 'doesnt support that format'. you can however go through the folder option, and select the exact same tracks and then it will play. took me ages to work out. but doing that you can only play one folder at a time. i like to put my entire collection on shuffle and see what comes up. i should be able to through the music option but since it wont play anything obviously i cant. i have no idea if mine is just defective, or if they're all like this. But it's just so odd and complicated. The actual player has a nice feel to it, it's chunky and a good weight, decent sound, no major issues with the rest, although the thing was in my bag for a week and the screen is already scratched, but it's only aesthetic damage. I just have no idea if it's suposed to be like this, or they all do this. if they do, cant recommend it. If mines just defective and the rest arent then i think i'd be really happy with it (if i had a working one).

I bought one of these because I wanted to try out lossless music, and admittedly because the design is pretty attractive. The cut out around the wheel in the corner, the metal build, and the shiny buttons really catch the eye, and managed to lure me in, for better, and for worse. Setting up the device was a bit of a pain as a first-timer. Having to format a card was one thing, but then having to go through every single song and make sure that the album art was the right resolution, and that the file names would work with the very basic sorting system was more than tedious. It's strange that it reads the metadata for things like genre, but doesn't seem to so the same for file number or song name. Navigating through the menus is also quite tedious. On the home screen, the icons move in the opposite direction to the way your scroll with the wheel, which is quite annoying. Beyond that, the design of the device very clearly emphasises the scroll wheel, however, if you actually try to scroll through menus, you'll find that it's basically pointless. Sure, for the seven songs on screen, it's fine and as speedy as you'd want, but the moment you try to scroll further, it stutters considerably, and takes far too long to load the file names. It's as quick to just use the forwards/backwards buttons. Loading the songs themselves is also frustratingly slow. If you have, say, and album with songs that flow into the next, you'll have to suffer through pauses of up to four seconds between songs, which ruins the experience. Even for a normal album, that can be quite frustrating. The sound of the device is, however, quite nice. There's a lot of clarity, and it's fun being able to more clearly hear individual elements in a song. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the screen. The low resolution I don't mind, but the extremely narrow viewing angles before the colours white out is unpleasant. Battery life is actually pretty good, although it is a shame that the charging port is micro USB instead of USB Type-C. Overall, the price, design, and sound profile of the Mechen M30 is pretty attractive, but the actual user experience - from painfully sluggish loading and scrolling speeds, to the tediousness of formatting all your files - makes it difficult to recommend. It feels like an anachronism, like something you'd find in the early 2000s and put up with because it's the best available, and while the sound quality is great, using it feels so archaic compared to any modern music app you'd already have on your phone. The ability to listen to FLACs on the go is one thing, but the lethargic loading effectively ruins certain albums, and makes the scroll wheel pointless. If you think you'd like the sound, then for the price point, it might be worth it for you, but if you want to save yourself a lot of tedium and frustration between the formatting process and the atrocious loading speeds, I'd recommend going for something else.

Been using this for few days now. The build quality is amazing, it feels like metal and quite heavy. The sound quality is amazing on both my low end earphones as well as my higher end Sennheisers. It can easily power the Senheissers without needing to max out the volume. The wheel is quite good, but its very clicky. You can definitely hear it, which some people might like. I was happy to see that you can still use the media controls while the screen is off. The one slight issue with this device is that the songs cut off 2-3 seconds before the end. for example if the song is 2:30 long, it will cut off at 2:27 which is very annoying. I initially thought this was some kind of "gapless playback" setting but I did not find any setting that can change this. I then tried to update the firmware by following the instructions on their website. It made me download a tool, which just didnt work with the firmware files that they provided. I then tried to manually flash the firmware onto the player by copying the files onto the SD card, then using the "Auto Update" built in function. It said "no files found". So that clearly didnt work. Waiting to hear back from their customer support, and if nothing works then I have no choice but to return it. A bit of a let down for an otherwise good product. UPDATE. After speaking to customer service I have managed to update the firmware. The new firmware still showed the same cutoff issue but I've been assured that they are looking into it. Overall they've been very quick to respond and even fixed a bug based on some email exchanges.

This is the best MP3 player that I've ever owned! I know some people didn't like the weight of it but I love it. It is so sturdy, even when I've accidentally dropped it or sat on it there's no worries of it breaking. The sound quality is crisp with plenty of base and it's very straightforward to put your playlist onto it. I would definitely recommend this product!

This mp3 player exceeded my expectations! The in-built DAC delivers high quality audio, even through my Sennheisers. The ability to group tracks into playlists on the device is very handy. Thoroughly enjoyable device experience. A+++

I just finally got it running, as the micro sd card with the player do say 64GB but in reality it was 128mb. Other odd thing when the screen is off and I need to pause it. I need to on power then I click pause. Yet good sound quality and small.

I purchased this player specifically because it does NOT have more modern features like touch screen and wifi and bluetooth. Every time I use my phone for stuff like this it seems like you touch it the wrong way and it just annoys me being so touch sensitive ugghhh... I just wanted a simple player with a good interface that is intuitive to load all my folders of albums. I have probably close to the max of 256gb of music on my computer, recorded vinyl records and ripped CD's and I wanted to get better sound than a phone. There are phones that have good sound but not for this price. I hook this up to an Aomais bluetooth speaker with a stereo cable in, and also bring it into the car the same way, through the AUX port. There is nothing wrong with a solid player, and it feels solidly made, that is like a walkman I use to have. The interface is intuitive and pretty simple, and I have nothing bad to say about it. Are there other players that cost more and have better sound? Sure, but the difference isn't much. The thing is, standards are up these days and what you can get at this price point is great. You want the highest quality, which is only marginally better? You'll pay way more for that. And besides that, most sound can be EQ'd so for clear reproduction of whatever it is you ripped into digital, this will be perfectly fine. Small enough for your pocket, even though it has some weight, and it won't just go do whatever it wants if you touch it the wrong way. No stupid android to deal with or bluetooth connectivity problems etc etc...Just fun listening. It comes with a 64gb card, and that holds a ton even with all my files being flac. If I lost this tomorrow I'd get another one right away, I'm not going to pay 500 for something that has features I don't need or want. Simple is good, and it also has a line level out for when I get my stereo receiver set up to input this into. The ONLY negative here for this, is that they haven't upgraded the micro USB to a USB C which is a newer standard so hopefully they'll upgrade that at some point and maybe a higher capacity transfer/charge cable but you can always pull the card out and use a faster reader and reinstall the card.
