the Chinese emperor got it right!
Do you use Tiger Balm? If you are human, have muscles and tendons and the commensurate occasional aches and pains then you need Tiger Balm! Legend has it that a Chinese emperor back around 600 AD had a rather large concubine and while that worked for him...his back was often not up for the challenge. Time to call in the Chinese medicine men and order up a balm for his back to "keep him in the game" so to speak! Failure was not an option as the consequences for the medicine men would be ugly! Suffice it to say, they got it right and "voila" Tiger Balm was born. True story? I dunno but it adds a bit of mystery and intrigue to the balm, wouldn't you agree! OK, this stuff comes in a reddish formula and a white formula, I have never used the red version...but I am told it will stain your clothing...if staining is not something you are desiring then be sure you order the white, non-staining formula! I only, exclusively use the white non-staining balm! Now, I have used a lot of stuff with names like Icy Hot, Ben Gay, Fire and Ice...you name it and they all do what they purport to do...burn you! God forbid you rub your eyes or elsewhere....enter the "fire dragon", if ya know what I mean? I am an avid tennis player, addict is probably a more appropriate term. I play everyday for at least 2 to 3 hours, weather and other things considered and I have all the aches and pains to prove it! But....I also have Tiger Balm everyday! After a hot shower to open up the pores, I apply just a little buttering of this stuff to my lower back, both knees, a bad ankle and my right shoulder. There is an immediate warming action though no burn and this stuff must contain an analgesic because it takes the edge off of any minor aches and pains immediately and keeps on working through my daily tennis regimine! I trully love this stuff, have used it for years and years now and wouldn't even think of heading to the courts before applying it to my known weak areas as well as to any new areas that may have shown up as well! It's got a nice fragrance to it....not as overwhelming as some of the other muscle balms I have used in the past and even that slight "rub" fragrance seems to dissipate before I get out of the house to play! I have a 87 year old neighbor, in great shape for his years but he has some knee issues and once I gave him a dab of mine in an older empty tin....he now uses it faithfully and says it really helps him to get around better then without it! This 50 gram tin is good for at least 6 months of applying everyday. It has the consistency of waxy shoe polish and you just need to glide your fingers across the top and then apply to the area you want to treat! There are knock offs out there with "tiger" in the name but I have tried them and they are useless. Make sure you get the real deal...."Tiger Balm", despite the knock off name and packaging and cheaper price they are pretenders to be sure and you will have wasted your money on them. I reccommend this stuff to all my friends, tennis playing or not and I have yet to get any negative feedback! Yep....the Chinese Emperor got himself back into the game and me and hopefully you as well!

Works and smells great
I love this stuff. Works well, my muscle soreness from work goes away after a few minutes.and I love the smell, a bit of spice/cinnamon-like smell it reminds me a bit of Christmas for some reason. Better smelling than other brands of pain relieving cream/ointment.

Tiger Balm a great pain and injury reliever
I’ve been a customer of tiger balm for over 40 years. No other injury nor pain relief medication can compare. I’ve been a dancer over 40 years as well, and have used this ointment for any injuries I have sustained during my career. This ointment has helped me, and still does help with keeping injuries to a minimum, while relieving pain and getting me on my feet in no time!

Love the product but it's so hard to open!
Like I said I love the product it works amazingly, however I took 1 star away because it is so hard to open. Even my husband had a hard time and he doesn't have arthritis. Please put a twist top on this!

Penetrates deep; stronger than Biofreeze; Helps to cut back on pain killers
I accidentally bought this instead of a warming massage lotion/oil for sore muscles. I hadn't tried it but took it with me to visit the in-laws for Thanksgiving. My mother in law has been dealing with a torn rotater cuff and is having surgery in a few days, but the pain has been really awful for her - she described it as a very deep throbbing ache that went from her shoulder down her arm. Before trying the Tiger Balm, she was taking Percocet to deal with the pain, but would wait to take them until night time because they make her sleepy. If the pain was really bad before then, she would basically be out for the rest of the evening. I convinced her to try the Tiger Balm Ultra Strength and she said that about 20 minutes later she had totally forgotten about the pain! I have given her the Tiger Balm and she now uses that instead of Percocet. She is also planning on using it after surgery (making sure to stay away from any open wounds) and it expecting it to cut down on the amount of pain killers she will need to be on. She was really impressed that the effects of the balm penetrated so far deep into her shoulder. I have only tried the tiger balm twice and can attest to the fact that it is stronger than Biofreeze - it really does seem to penetrate more. It does have a very strong (but not entirely unpleasant) smell...but if it helps you to be functional without needing any (or as many) pain killers, it's a small trade off. 12/5/2017 Update: This stuff is amazing! I have been having a throbbing pain that goes from my lower back down to the back of my thigh (due to sciatica caused by a slipped vertebra - long story). I have pretty much done everything short of surgery for that problem (including 6 months of physical therapy, which really helped a lot) but for some reason am still getting this sciatica pain every so often. I tried Advil and even a non-opiate pain killer (its an alternative to Advil that its easier on the stomach) but they weren't helping with the pain at all...the pain has been so bad the last few days and nights that it has woken me up and made it difficult to sleep. Enter in: Tiger Balm! Within 20 minutes, I forgot the pain was there in the first place. All I noticed was the lack of pain! I was able to sleep, until the balm wore off and then I just rolled over in bed, reapplied, and fell back to sleep. So thankful I had this on hand! My other choice to help with sleep would have been opiate painkillers, which I try to avoid at all costs. Thank you, Tiger Balm, for making such an awesome product!!!
