No Batteries. It is push down while pulling back friction spring operated only. Release after pulling back and it will roll forward via the spring motor for whatever distance the springs energy is capable of providing.

What kind of battery does it take? Don't say it doesn't need them like the other answers because I'm literally looking at battery tray 😂
