If it doesn't turn on, can it be fixed? if i unscrew the bottom and open it up to figure it out, what should i be looking for and how might i fix it?

It can be, if it just doesnt turn on though have you done basic trouble shooting? Is it getting power? If you know its getting power i would check the connections to the stirring device and make sure you dont have a loose wire, then I would check the wiring and the rheostat to make sure you are getting power where you need it.

Is the unit also a hotplate?

Acheté pour mixer les chimie de photo cet agitateur fonctionne à merveille. Jusqu'ici aucun problème à l'usage en utilisant un broc de 1L. Je ne sais pas s'il tiendrait des contenances plus élevées ou plus visqueuses comme l'indique les autres commentaires en revanche... Bref je recommande pour un usage simple
