🌿 Transform your tank into a thriving underwater jungle with Fluval Bio-Stratum!
Fluval 12696 Bio-Stratum is a mineral-rich volcanic soil substrate designed to promote healthy plant development and vibrant coloration in planted aquariums. Its lightweight, porous 1mm granules activate beneficial nitrifying bacteria upon water contact, jumpstarting the nitrogen cycle and rapidly reducing ammonia levels for stable water conditions. This substrate enhances root penetration and serves as an additional biological filtration source, ensuring superior water quality and a balanced aquatic ecosystem. Ideal for both new and established tanks, Fluval Bio-Stratum is a must-have foundation for any serious aquarist seeking lush, thriving aquatic plants.

Fragile particle structure necessitates easy handling
We bought this medium on the author's recommendation, Linsay Sisti, in her book "The Ultimate Guide to Houseplant Propagation". We intended to use this medium to propagate some of our indoor tropical plants. While it is too early to offer definitive results, it is apparent that the propagules are accepting the medium as they root. The brown color of the granules is pleasing, and so far, there is no odor. Three varieties of Chlorophytum are now propagating in Fluval 12697 and are progressing nicely, showing no sign of disease. Please note that Chlorophytum (Spider Plant) is very easy to propagate. We have noted that the new roots are nearly reaching the bottom of the container, while the crowns look very healthy. Nothing propagated requires a pH adjustment, and in several instances, the container medium is one-third filled with water to encourage rooting, as Sisti suggests for using a Fluval stratum.

Must have for planted tanks
This stuff is kinda expensive but it totally necessary for planted tanks. Use it as a base and put gravel or sand on top then plant the tank. The fluval stratum will settle and the top layer will secure the it in. After a few days of running the tank the water will clear up after planting.

High quality aquarium plant substrate
I've used the fluval stratum for house plants and rooting corms for years, and I just started up my aquarium so knew I trusted this brand. I chose the bio stratum for my tank over the stratum and my water is crystal clear and mr plants are loving it. I did cap with course sand and love how this looks. I highly recommend this brand.

Finally have healthy thriving aquarium plants
In the past I've typically just had sand or gravel in my aquarium and didn't have much luck keeping aquatic plants alive, some would do okay but most would die despite adding an aquatic plant fertilizer. I prefer the look of sand instead of the look of plant substrate in my aquarium so when I learned I could just cap the plant substrate with sand I decided to try it and bought this Fluval plant substrate as I've seen it highly recommended. I've had it in my aquarium capped with white sand for about a month now, I bought various aquatic plants to try out with it shortly after adding the substrate to the tank and so far all plants are thriving, some have grown substantially to where I now need to start trimming the overgrowth. I was thinking about purchasing root tabs to help with the plants but now I don't think I'll need them with this Fluval substrate. I'm happy I can now successfully keep healthy aquatic plants and my fish and shrimp are loving them as well.

Great bio substrate for your tank
This is great for planting and is very nice in the tank. If you pour your water in slowly, you do not have to worry about it dusting up and making your tank appear dirty, but I suggest not washing it as that can eliminate the bacteria that makes this product so expensive. Additionally it can affect the ammonia in your tank so be sure to cycle thoroughly. Value for money: Good quality and worth the price Design: Gorgeous in tank Ease of use: Easy to plant in. Plants stay put!

WARNING please read this before using
*WARNING* if you have never used this like me please read this... they really dont tell you this so you will have to live and learn like me if you dont read this. Okay first off it is really small pebbles so when you go to rinse it make sure you have something with small enough holes that it wont fall through 2nd when you rinse it you will freak out(I did) because it looks like oil its so dark so keep rinsing until its a decent looking you wont get it clear but cloudy is good enough.3rd you will need something to pour on top I went to the store and bought bigger pebble bio stratum to pour on top of this bag of Bio Stratum. i was told to not use sand because it pull the vitamins out. now once you have everything in place pour your tank water on top of something so you dont upset the rocks and make it more cloudy. then wait 20minutes before you put your fish in. i did these steps and it has been 3 hours now and the water is starting to clear alittle. so i will update in a few days.

Worth every penny
it does make the water black but after a few hours it settles down and looks absolutely beautiful. This pack is a bit expensive but you 100% get value for you money. It was perfect for my 30L tank with about 25% left in the packet. Perfect for my plants

Great for water plants
This has worked great for my water Lillie's. It's a neat product, little balls is the only way I can describe it. The plants seem to like it and the fish don't dig in it as much as they did with the other dirt. Its a bit pricy but worth it.
