Truly High Gain w/ Great Range - But 2.4GHz ONLY
Here's my situation. I live in a home with 2 stories and have combating my network issues for months. Due to the configuration and number of devices/components, I had to place my broadband modem/router upstairs while my home office is in a downstairs room. Aside from running my own cabling in my walls and between floors, I've tried every solution to try & get satisfactory Ethernet connection in that office. In my original solution, I opted to go for Powerline AV but no matter which adapter I used (I used both Netgear and TP-LINK brands), I cannot get a good enough speed to the office. What's strange though is that under other outlets in the house, I can get a good connection. I'm not an electrician, so I'm not sure why my Powerline adapters simply just stink in the home office room. Documenting the speeds, both Powerline adapters would at most, get slightly over 1Mbit (yes, just ONE) speed to my PC. This is 100x less than your standard 100Mbit Ethernet connection. On top of that, my Home Internet via Comcast is 50Mbit. Can you imagine a speed slower than a T1 between devices in your home? Yes, it was that terrible. So I opted for the next logical solution. Using a wireless USB NIC. A friend of mine let me borrow his adapter but I could only pull about 20Mbit from my wireless router to my office PC. Even my work Lenovo laptop and my speeds would be roughly in the 20Mbit to 25Mbit range (connection speed was just good, floating between 3 and 4 bars according to Windows). Thinking about it long and hard, I finally decided to try a high gain adapter. I remember using high gain antennas and adapters for wirelessa couple years ago in my previous job and I knew after about a decade, there should be a nice niche consumer market for these devices. Lo and behold, I found this adapter on Amazon. The end result? Amazing. My connection speed is considered "excellent" via Windows and the RSSI (received signal strength indication) sits at in the -60s (which is a good signal). When performing a speed test w/ my Internet, I easily hit the max 50Mbit. Finally I can download at the speed in which I pay for!! Transferring between my home office PC to a laptop PC using 802.11g achieved expected results as well. No more slow-mo WiFi. The *ONLY* caveat I have with this adapter is that it operates only on the 2.4GHz spectrum of 802.11n. Without going into too much detail, the "best" 802.11n networks utilize the 5GHz space due to the availability of non-overlapping channels. With 2.4GHz networking, you only have 3 non-overlapping channels in that spectrum. Since 802.11n works by combining multiple channels, you only really have a limited number of channels to work with. Bottom line is that if you live in an apartment building or some close quarters where other wireless routers exist, you could get some interference if you try to use 802.11n over 2.4GHz. Luckily for me, my neighbors are all using the same 2.4GHz channel, so I haven't run into any problems (yet). Highly recommended adapter for those wanting INSANE range for a CHEAP price.

Plug and play with most modern linux distros
I'm am quite pleased with this product as it meets my criteria quite well. I was looking for an adapter for my home office so that I had a nice quick link to my home server, and to make use of my external bandwidth (which has exceed the speed of my g network for the first time ever!). My criteria 1) I did not care about size as I was really only using it in this one location 2) I wanted to get a maximum speed out of my link 3) The device needed to be relatively easy to set up with the 3.0+ kernels as well as some older ones (one pc srunning ubuntu 10.04). I first got the Asus n-13 thinking naively that it would "work" best with my asus n-16 router and they stated linux support. Unfortunately asus chose another chip for their newer dongles so I was out of luck in 10.04 (it would freeze my desktop on removal as well 0 nice). That was quickly returned and I gave this a try because it has an atheros chip reported as well supported under Linux (via the ath9k_htc module) The model I received was the TL-WN822N ver 2.0. It worked out of the box with 64 and 32-bit ubuntu 12.04 and 64-bit 10.04. Windows support seems strong though I did not test that yet. I get a "reported" connection speed of 300 Mbit/s to my asus n-16 router at about 40 feet, one floor and two walls. The reported speed is not so useful. I used iperf to a both a wired network machine and to my router consistently shows about a 194Mbit/s to 90 Mbit/s throughout the day without anyone using the wifi. In practical terms its about 19.4MBytes/s to 10.3 MBytes/s which slightly exceeds my write speed on my old server external drives so it works great for me. I highly recommend this adapter! Notes: iperf is a network tool which is useful to test raw network speeds while avoiding potential bottle necks such as harddrives or the protocol you are using to transfer a file. It works on all major OS's (and there is a great android version too). see [...] for more info on how it works. To take full advantage of the N wifi spec you need either a dual band router and adapter and use a chunk of that spectrum (this one is not 5Ghz capable) or set the channel width to 40 Mhz. The latter is not very nice to do if you have a lot of neighbours nearby (like in a highrise condo). I also run the router for n clients only (I have an older g router to handle those clients). More info on bands here: [...] Also remember to get N speeds you need to use wpa2 with AES or nothing at all - WPA1 or wep slow it down to g speeds.

A little buggy...
So I think this device is pretty good for it's price. I've got a router and now this card that both have high speeds and individual transmit/receive antennae, absolutely no noticeable loss of speed compared to being hard-wired. Setting it up was a breeze: plug it in, put the CD in, and then follow the basic wizard to completion. Total setup time: 5 minutes. Two reasons why I can't give this product 5 stars: First, this thing kept disconnecting on me. It would be anywhere from once an hour to ever 5 minutes. Worse-yet, for some reason it would not remember the default connection and password, so I'd need to manually reconnect it every time. Needless to say this was annoying. I looked it up on Google and apparently they're very susceptible to electrical noise from nearby devices. This makes sense since I had the antennae and its cable running right next to my speaker and monitor. I moved it away from other electrical devices and this appears to have fixed my disconnecting problems. The software is a little buggy with this. The first item I mentioned above (not reconnecting or remembering password), but that's been dealt with. The other issue is that when the software auto-boots on computer start-up and you click the "X" to close it, it keeps asking if you want to close the program or minimize it. There's a check-box for it to "remember your selection." It remembers it while your computer is on, but forgets it on reboot. Not a big deal, but a little annoying nevertheless. If you can live with these two items, this is a great buy... 6/9/13 UPDATE: So I've recently had a problem with a lot (all?) of my programs that run full-screen would tend to automatically minimize and revert to the desktop anywhere from every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. After doing a little research, it looks like the TP-Link software is to blame, which was a little... frustrating. I discovered that going to Task Manager and ending the "TWCU.exe *32" process and opening the "TP-Link Wireless Configuration Utility" (which runs in the background) to close it does the trick. Note that this is the same software I complained earlier about it not remembering your selection. Just make sure you actually tell it to "CLOSE" and not "MINIMIZE." Ironically, it seems to actually remember the "CLOSE" option properly... I'd give this more of a 3.5 stars if I could, but if you can work through these bugs (and hopefully now you can), then it's still a good product. Hope this helps!

Awesome adapter for any computer, works on both Windows and OS X!
Amazing little antenna for a desktop that needs a wifi adapter or a laptop that just needs a range boost. I do love that I SOMETIMES get speeds of 100Megabits per second (10 megabyte per second download speeds), but i do have a 300 megabit connection, and even when placing it right beside the router i only get around 90-100MBps. At around 30 feet away from the router speeds drop to 30-60MBps with around 2 concrete walls inbetween, you just need to find somewhere to place it to get a good signal. Someone tried to tell me that it was the usb ports affecting this, and it might be. but it is usb 2.0 so i dont really expect much anyways. I noticed that a few months after using it the usb port somehow got delicate and decided to not work. i have to make sure the cable gets absolutely no movement or else it cuts off which is silly since i hardly move it. For gaming i would say it is decent, i get 5-40 ping on average and am more affected by game server problems than network issues at my home. it picks up distant signals which is nice too. i like that the antennas bend down and sit flush with the device for storing in a bag or smewhere else. you can also discretely tape it under a desk. the drivers are all online, and its ultra lightweight and compact. i do need a replacement soon, but i think there might be something newer by the time i go ahead and purchase one. overall TP link makes amazing products, ive purchased multiple routers on newegg and this is my first wireless adapter from amazon. they have great driver support and i can confirm it works on OS X, as well as Windows, you just need to find the correct driver and use a wifi utility such as the "Green wifi utility". This is hands down one of the best investments i have made for my desktops networking capabilities.

An absolutely amazing product!!! See Update at the end.
This thing is amazing! I honestly hadn't expected much, but was VERY pleasantly surprised. We have a wifi network in our house. It works well, except for my wife's computer which is only about 60 feet from our router, but with three walls between the router and her computer. It would hang up when loading websites, and sometimes would never load the page at all. I blamed the problem on the computer or browser; probably the computer, as I was not having a problem with mine, nor did she if she moved it much closer to the router. This antenna arrived about a week ago, so we've had plenty of time to test it. Installation was simple. Plug the unit in, run the enclosed CD, click on to the network, enter the pass code, and that was it. My wife's computer problems are gone! All websites snap right up. Not one problem with any of them. We have a custom program on her computer that we use to run our business. Running it on my computer from hers, over the network was always slower than running it on her computer. That was to be expected. Now it runs about 50% faster across the network. I installed this antenna on my computer (Windows 8.1) just to see what would happen. Amazingly, it sped page loads up dramatically, even though I'm within about 30 feet of the router (albeit the signal still has to go through two walls), and did not have nearly as many problems as she did. I have just ordered a second one to go on my computer for that reason, and because I expect our in-house program will run even faster across the network using one on each computer. I will update this review after I find out. Given the results with this antenna on our two computers, I enthusiastically recommend it so anyone who suspects a internet connection problem, even if it's only a small one. I simply cannot believe the results, especially at this price. Amazing! 01/15/15: I received my second antenna about a week ago. As expected (hopes for!), it did speed interaction across the network between our computers. No more hung pages on the internet. I can't wait to see how it works in hotels when we travel.

Works, but had to download latest driver
Well, I got this to work, but had to go to the TP-Link website and download the latest driver to do so. At first, I thought I had gotten a faulty unit (like the Kingston memory I also ordered with this product). However, after installing and uninstalling the driver and utility 3 times that came with the adapter's installation disc (and running CCleaner registry cleaner and then restarting the computer after each uninstall/reinstall), I tried one last gasp before starting the return process with Amazon (as I had to do with the DOA memory). I downloaded and manually installed the correct driver (in my case, Windows 7 64-bit driver) and the first signs of life were finally seen from this adapter, the neat little blinking green LED activity light that had refused to illuminate until that point. This also cleared up the exclamation point next to the adapter within Device Manager. I did not install the utility that came with it, but fired up my AT&T Communications Manager for my USB aircard and the new wifi adapter was immediately recognized. I then turned on the wifi on my Samsung GS2 and once I entered my password it connected to the Internet without a hitch via Communications Manager's wifi console. I am writing and submitting this review over my phone's wifi hotspot and the new TP-Link TL-WN822N, so yes, it is working and working fast. But, 4 stars instead of 5 because others not as familiar with computers would have probably given up and been more frustrated than I was initially. Update: The driver I downloaded from the TP-Link site crashed my computer so badly on restart I had to reinstall using the Acer Recovery console because Windows refused to start or repair itself, and System Restore was no help either in the Repair menu. Granted, Windows threw up the Not Digitally signed message before I installed the driver, I've never had a problem with a driver that is not digitally signed, but evidently this driver does not like my system or is poorly written. How do I know this? After 2-3 hours of recovering the system because Windows would not start, repair or restore, as soon as I installed the TP-Link driver again, the computer immediately blue screened, restarted, informed me it had experienced a serious problem, it again would not repair, etc. as before, so once again back to the Acer Recovery console (on a computer that is not a week old!). Luckily, Acer's Recovery console does give the option to back up personal files, so all my pictures and downloads were saved as a backup. I'm sending this adapter back to Amazon with my DOA Kingston memory tomorrow.

good connection speed, but a number of annoying problems
I bought this antenna (TL-WN822N High Gain Wireless-N USB Adapter or N300 High Gain) a while ago to connect from 2nd floor to a router on first floor. As long as the connection is established, the speed is very good and the range also. However, it takes several attempts to connect in the first place, and the connection is frequently lost, or the router just disconnects for no apparent reason. I started to tether my desktop to my mobile to use its wifi connection, which connected without problem to the same router and was much more consistent. Furthermore, the driver is not automatically updated and windows (7) is unable to detect the most recent version of the driver, insisting that the 2010 version is up to date. It is possible to download the most recent version from the website and install it manually after uninstalling the old version (install with the setup.exe). I don't know if this is a Windows problem or if the problem is with TP link, but as the most recent driver is supposed to fix the disconnect issues, there should be an easier way to install it. Update: The new driver has stopped the problem with connecting initially, but not the random disconnects. Sometimes the antenna works fine for hours, sometimes it disconnects every five minutes ten times in a row. UPDATE: Since the antenna never really worked for me, I decided to buy a different one, the TL-WN821N Wireless-N USB Adapter (or N600 Standard). After doing this, I noticed that Amazon pools all the reviews for those devices together and you cannot see which review is for which. So: The N600 works like a charm. Installs without issues, great signal and amazing speed of 105 Mbps(the signal of the N300 High Gain is a tiny bit better, but the speed is still much slower and it frequently disconnects). I wish I would have known this before buying the first antenna, which was a waste of money. Three stars - the average of the two. Take care when reading these reviews. I'm sure most of the good ones are not for the N300 HG.

Totally recommended; best wifi adapter I've ever used. Its THAT good.
Alright so heres the deal. I bought a cisco dual band 300mbs abgn USB wifi adapter for my desktop. It plugs into a USB port directly, and its a thin stick that pokes out. With the desktop up against the wall (in other words, OUT of the way) it got signal... but it was very shaky. I could watch latency and speed graphs fluctuate like hell w/ the tower against the wall. As such, it would bounce between a 54meg/34meg connection. What does that mean? Going between two different rates of speed will cause latency and lag. Not good. BUT, pulled 12-15" from the wall resulted in pretty quick speeds. It pulled on average, 18-22mbps down, and 14-19mbps up. Ping was usually 50-90ms. The antenna was picking up 3-4 bars when up against the wall. When pulled 12-15" from the wall, 4-5 bars typically (but nearly always fluctuating). Mind you, my desktop is upstairs (router is downstairs), and a good 40ft from the router. Then I ordered the TP Link. Its not a dual band, which stinks, but my current router isn't dual band anyways so no big loss. The TP Link has a SMALL install disc; a mini disc. Desktops accept it, some laptops wont. But the drivers and utility installed w/out a hitch. Now, the TP Link has a usb cable.... so you can move the card a good distance from the PC. That means the PC can go back against the wall and not look so ghetto, and I can move the antenna around any which way I please.So what did I do? I put the antenna 1.5 meters from my PC, and have 100% connection and 5 bars at all time. I also stay at 54mbps at all times; no fluctuating between bands or speeds. Now this new card is pulling 24-27mbps down and 24-28mbps down. Yes thats right; the up and down speeds not only INCREASED, but they are nearly equal. This makes for a wicked fast connection with zero lag. Ping ranges from 20-50ms now also. My connection is a typical verizon fios home connection. Nothing terribly special. But as you can see, this wifi high gain unit pretty much maxes out my connection which is excellent. I dont have a home network, so I cannot share how fast file sharing and access while utilizing that 300mbps transfer rate. I've only hooked this unit up last night, so I dont have any long term reports. BUT, if there are any issues in the future I *will* update this review.

Inmejorable
El tiempo de recepción menor al estimado,así que perfecto por me urgía bastante. Embalado y estado del pedido perfecto también. Muy pequeño cabe el la palma de la mano, el cable parece resistente. La instalación es muy sencilla. incluye un mini CD con los drivers y en menos de 2 minutos está funcionando. Lo he instalado y probado en un portátil HP en otro Samsung y en un ordenador sobremesa en el que finalmente se ha quedado fijo. En todos los casos ha sido instalado en Windows 7. Lo quería por que el router me quedaba bastante lejos como para tirar un cable hasta el pc de sobremesa, ya que esté está algo escondido. Desde el primer momento el funcionamiento y el rendimiento perfecto. En los test de velocidad, hechos un sábado por la mañana, obtenía el 100% del servicio que me ofrece ONO: 50 mbps. Realicé una descarga importante de más de 40 gigas en descarga directa de un juego cuando lo instalé hará ya un mes y he de decir que es muy estable y no se me ha colgado en ningún momento. Y he llegado a alcanzar tasas de descarga de mas de 6MB/s lo que me parece increíble con más dispositivos conectados al wifi de casa (2 iphone y 2 ipad obviamente no funcionando a pleno rendimiento a la vez ). El ping también es aceptable, mejor desde luego que el de la tarjeta de mi portátil HP. El resumen muy recomendable. Calidad/precio inmejorable. Estoy por pedir otro para las zonas de la casa con menos cobertura.

I am in the building next to my landlord. Prior to getting this device I could only rarely see the wi-fi signal. Now I get a reliable signal. I did have to hang it from my ceiling and made sure the pair of antennae point toward his router.

SEMPLICE, PRATICO ed ECONOMICO
Da circa un mese ho acquistato questo piccolo adattatore per sostituire una precedente "penna wireless" di 54 MB - una TP-LINK TL WN321G ora non più in commercio - con cui collegare senza cavi ethernet il proprio PC SERVER/DESKTOP ad un ROUTER (il ROUTER senza modem NETGEAR R 7000): il risultato è stato ovviamente molto soddisfacente, per i seguenti motivi: 1) la connessione wireless si è velocizzata di molto, passando immediatamente dalla precedente velocità di 54 MB ad una velocità minima di 144 MB sino a quella massima di 300 MB: ciò ha significato un miglioramento rilevante non solo per la gestione dei dati tra PC e SUPPORTI HARDWER connessi tra loro senza cavi, in modo più fluido e veloce - (persino i backup non interferiscono sulle prestazioni del PC) - ma anche lo STREAMING è divenuto davvero piacevole senza più gli inconvenienti dei blocchi delle immagini; Ovviamente ciò è dovuto anche al fatto che tale adattatore TP LINK lavora in perfetta simbiosi con il Router R 7000 che ha caratteristiche sue proprie per il miglioramento dello streaming. 2) Oltre la velocità, è da apprezzare anche la particità del pannello di controllo di tale adattatore, che consente di leggere quali e quanti connessioni ci sono oltre alla propria, e soprattutto anche i CANALI CON LE RELATIVE FREQUENZE GHZ su cui tali connessioni accedono: pertanto con un buon router - quale es. quello in mia dotazione R 7000 - è possibile spostare la propria connessione TP LINK su una altro canale meno affollato, per aumentare la velocità dello stesso adattatore TP LINK (portandola es da 144 MB a 300 MB); 3) Terzo motivo circa la buona qualità di tale adattatore, è la funzione che consente, con la semplice pressione di un tasto dell'adattatore TP LINK medesimo, di eseguire automaticamente la connessione WIRELESS in modo protetto al ROUTER, senza dover reinserire manualmente i codici SSID e PASSWORD: ovviamente tale funzione presuppone che anche il ROUTER sia abilitato a tale specifica modalità di connessione (che non rende necessario di re-inserire manualmente tutti i codici); 4) Da ultimo, pratico e funzionale è la particolare funzione definita "SoftAP", cioe' la funzione che consente di trasformare tale adattatore in uno strumento con cui AGGIUNGERE UN PUNTO DI ACCESSO A I INTERNET OLTRE A QUELLO GIA' FORNITO DAL PROPRIO ROUTER (o MODEM/ROUTER): infatti tale funzione è assai pratica, perchè ad es. se con il MODEM/ROUTER si ottiene un accesso "RISERVATO" ed un accesso "GUEST", con tale adattatore TP LINK, è possible appunto aggiungerne UN TERZO ACCESSO, con conseguente alleggerimento del traffico sugli altri due punti di accesso: in altri termini si possono connettere più dispositivi ad internet utilizzando accessi diversi, così da ridurre le interferenze reciproche, o meglio LA COMPATIBILITA' DI TALE TP-LINK CON GLI STANDARD WI-FI 802.11 b/g/n, CONSENTE A PIU' DISPOSITIVI MOBILI, TRA I QUALI SPECIE GLI SMARTPHONE SINO AD ORA MESSI IN COMMERCIO, DI NAVIGARE SUI 2,4 GHZ DEL MODEM/ROUTER DOMESTICO ANZICCHE' TRAMITE IL TRAFFICO DATI DELLE RISPETTIVE SIM, CONTEMPORANEAMENTE, SENZA INTERFERENZE RECIPROCHE; 5) Consiglio infine questo adattatore TP LINK, soprattutto per i PC SERVER DESKTOP, non solo per le maggiori periferiche che ad esso si possono collegare via WIRELESS, ma anche perche il cavo USB con cui esso si collega al PC, è di una lunghezza davvero comoda e funzionale, poichè consente il posizionamento di tale adattatore in modo da ricevere e trasmettere senza essere "costretto" negli angoli delle pareti con conseguente degrado della velocità, oppure senza il rischio di inciampare sulla "penna USB" sporgente dal server.
