Is it GEL padding or something else?

Hello, Padded with something else. Only the bravo gel have the gel palms.

How do you know which size to get?

I'd suggest getting one up from what you normally get. I ordered an XL. That's what I usually get, and according to the size chart on Giro's website it should have fit. I can get my hands in with some difficulty, but getting them out? That's a real struggle. These things fit very, very close.

is this material thin and good for summer riding?I dont really need padding

These gloves have padding but it is light padding. You want to have some level of padding in case you fall!

Re your size chart: how is your width bigger than your length?

I have pretty large hands, my ring size is 12. I have tried the large but they are tight, so I order the XL.
