This Hardinge 5C regular depth blank emergency step chuck is used to hold large diameter workpieces in a lathe or other machine tool. It has a maximum hole depth of 1/2” (12.70 mm) and an overall length of 4-3/32”. The soft steel face and pilot hole allow drilling, boring, or stepping out to the exact size needed. The step chuck has external right-hand 1.238” x 20 threads for connecting to the draw bar, and the threads are heat treated for long life. The outside diameter of the head is 3/8” larger than the rated size to match the Hardinge 5C step chuck closer (sold separately) so that the full capacity is available to a depth of 1/2”. A step chuck closer for the rated size is required for all rotating spindle applications. This emergency step chuck is used to hold metals, plastics, carbide, graphite, and ceramics in industrial manufacturing applications.
