I was so disappointed when I opened the box, almost returned it
For the price I paid, I was disappointed. The buttons feel weird, the sound was low, and the speakers sounds cheap. Reminds me of the 900 Mhz phones from VTech in the 90s, which I thought was built better. It sounds and feels more like a radio, that's been transformed into a phone. So I gave it 3 stars. But; I can see it having 5 star capability if I view this device in a different light or prospective. So I wanted phones, like regular phones and bought a Panasonic cordless DECT 6 Plus system after I bought this that I'm thrilled with. Big buttons, super loud speakers, all the bells and whistles with 2 cell phone connects, phone books, etc. I decided to keep the phone till the end of Jan for the extended return period, and give it a chance. If I look at this phone as more of a radio, that I can be in any part of the building and get my phone calls, then that itself will be enough to keep the phone as a specialty phone, that can slip in my pocket when I walk around the building and not miss my calls. So far so good, and I found that the up and down arrows will control the volume levels which go much higher than default, so I can cross that complaint off my list. It works on the other side of the building even behind pallets of product, so check. It's very small and compact, fits in my pockets so check. It feels solid and well built. the base unit is small and compact, doesn't consume much space. I'm going to give this 5 stars now, because I saw it in the wrong light or perspective when I unboxed it. My friend Mike tells me it has the same electronics as the high end Durafon. It's not the kind of phone you buy as your primary phone, it's a specialty phone for long distances and high densities such as warehouse pallets and products and exceeds my expectations.

Range does not disappoint!
Have to admit, I was skeptical, but as far as longer-range connectivity, this phone *delivers*! Calls are answerable and clear throughout the span of our operation - 6 or so lineal acres - even though the base unit is basically buried within a concrete building and the acreage is full of foliage (which is full of water - which sucks up radio freq) and *big* machines. Additional handsets are a breeze to add: press a button on the base unit and two on the handset, and voilร ! No programming needed. My favorite feature: the various available ring tones. I am extremely fond of the fact that you can choose your ring tone per handset, as well. My old office phone used to scare the bejeebus out of me every time it rang, but with this one, I've chosen a softer, more melodious ring tone that doesn't startle me. I find that to be a huge plus. Huge. So far, the only thing I would change would be to have the ability to block numbers from the handset. On our old phone, if someone rang and I didn't want them to get through again (at least not from that number), I could easily add the number from the call log onto a blocked list. Even though we are on the national 'do not call' registry, it is largely ignored, and we get loads of telemarketing calls. Being able to just block the number right after hanging up - without having to enter anything beyond a short menu path - was very handy. I guess one other thing that'd be nice: we had voicemail integrated into our old phone system, but this phone does not have a built-in answering device. You have to go through the phone company for voicemail as opposed to the phone saving voicemail locally. I also liked having visual VM notifications on the phone's digital screen which I do not have with this one. In summary (TL;DR): the main reason we got this phone system was the range, and it does not disappoint. It's got some attractive bells and whistles, too, though not quite as many as I wish it did. Still, that that doesn't detract from the fact that this phone does what EnGenius says it'll do which has earned it 5 stars from this user.

Avoid
For a product that costs this much, id expect it to be of very good quality, I got the complete opposite. The buttons are small and hard to push. The "long range" i could only get about 400ft. The sound quality is terrible.

Exactly What My Business Needed
Super easy to set up โ had it out of the box and running in minutes. The range is excellent, the call quality is clear, and itโs been reliable for daily business use. For the price, the value is fantastic. Definitely a great investment for any small business needing a solid long-range cordless phone system.

good range, terrible phone
Really, Engenius? Is this the best you can do? The radio is pretty good, which is why it got two stars instead of one. I got a 500-600 foot range with it. As an analog radio, it also has the advantage of being fairly quiet from an electro-smog standpoint. (Check youtube for demonstrations of electrosmog detection for DECT phones -- you'll be suprised at how horrible those devices are -- if you're inclined, like I am, to believe that pulsing electric fields aren't necessarily the best thing for you.) On every other level this phone is a total piece of junk. They managed to miss the mark in every aspect of design. It feels clumsy in the hand. The buttons are small and don't feel very responsive. Sound quality is poor. It seems fragile. Caller ID works only intermittently. Call-waiting caller ID doesn't work at all. Oddly, all my other phones which normally do get both regular Caller ID and call-waiting Caller ID don't receive call-waiting Caller ID when this "genius" phone is in use. It's like it somehow absorbs the caller ID signal in that instance. (And I'm at a loss to explain why that should be, but it was very consistent. When this junk was plugged in, there was no call-waiting Caller ID on any of my phones. When it wasn't plugged in, call-waiting Caller ID worked fine.) Inbound Caller ID history and outbound call history are unintuitive to access. In fact, almost everything about the phone's "features" is unintuitive. FWIW, Engenius tech support was apparently untrained and knew little about the phone. When I first plugged in the phone it wasn't showing me Caller ID at all. I called tech support to find out whether I had to do something to enable it. (And yes I do subscribe to Caller ID and call-waiting Caller ID.) The person I was talking to had to put me on hold twice to ask somebody else some questions. Then they couldn't get the manual for this version phone. Ridiculous. In the end, they said it "should work." And in the end of the end, it did -- sometimes. This phone, because of the nice radio and the fact that it is analog rathen than digital, would be great for $50 and maybe (only maybe) acceptable for $100. But for the $240-ish that I paid for it, it's an embarrassing useless turd. If the radio's capabilities are important enough to you, you might want to buy this, but I returned mine.

EnGenius Phones--Always the Best!
Great performance for our needs so far. Our entire facility is on ground level, but it is fairly spread out--roughly 300-400 feet in each direction with a few walls here and there. With the base centrally located, this phone has worked terrifically for us with a solid connection at all times, with very clear audio. Yes, in general, EnGenius devices are not cheap, but they are the best and they always perform like it. This particular unit replaced our pretty old DuraFon Pro model, and thus far we are completely satisfied with this EnGenius FreeStyl2 model. It cost significantly less than another brand new DuraFon Pro would have cost, but so far, it has performed just as well. The handset itself looks (and I am sure is) less rugged than the DuraFon Pro handset. Just exhibit an ounce or two of common sense and I believe that the FreeSyl2 will exceed your expectations (like it did for us!)

It works!! The distance we needed to have a phone is absolutely the product needed.
Although the phone is perfect for what we need, there's a few things that would be nice to have....1. Speed dial. To be able to push a button and have that person automatically called without having to access the contact list/phone book. 2. Voicemail feature for those people who call us, to leave a message. The phone isn't very appealing to look at in a home. It looks as though we're in the stone age as far as looks go. Trust me, I'm thankful for the product because it works exactly how we hoped. It just could be updated with features & appearance..... Thank you.
