Talking Large Button Alarm Clock - Telling Time and Date for Elderly, Impaired Sight or Blind

I am visually impaired, purchased this talking alarm clock to put in my pillowcase. It is too loud for me, so I gave it to my teenage son who is a very deep sleeper. He is away at college and needs loud alarm clocks. It works great for him. I normally use a travel talking alarm clock, I week before my husband and don't want to disturb him, so I need a Clock that is quieter or has a volume adjustment button. Still looking for that one. But this little clock is great if you are hard of hearing, has a nice big button on its top to tap to turn off the alarm clock, or to tap if you just want to hear the time. It is nice that it is battery powered for traveling or if you don't want an electric cord getting in the way on your bedside table. It is very easy to set, just one button on the bottom.

Setting this gadget up was pretty easy but could be a challenge for a person not used to the single button setting method of many small devices. The voice announcement of the time was in clear American English and was pretty loud but might not be enough for someone with serious hearing problems.

Total overpriced garbage. It looks and feels like it should be sold in a dollar store for 99 cents. I bought two of them for my elderly Mother. Neither one worked out of the box with brand new Energizer batteries. I will be sending them back for a full refund.

My blind friend loves it

These are a life saver for my dad who is elderly and legally blind. No more 3 am phone calls. Now he just taps the button and hears the time. It says am or pm and the date. He loved it so much we purchased another one for the living room.

First, my mom loves and depends on this. In that regard, it is the best money I've spent. For the rest of us, I'll be kind and say there are 'some issues' with the sound quality. It is relentlessly, piercingly loud, with no volume or tone adjustment. If you have high-pitched hearing loss (like my mom-typical of the elderly), the tone and volume may be just fine. If you have normal hearing, you're in for a 'treat'. The low-grade digital voice synthesis, while very intelligible, is piercing and trebly. If you listen to mom on a baby monitor, her time checks will absolutely wake the dead, and if your mom is like mine, she hits it many times per night. Insult to injury, it sounds as if there is a high pitched screech mixed with the voice. This is digital synthesis noise and consequently has a particularly nasty, discordant characteristic. You hear the same defect in cheap, first-generation voice synthesis toys. A low-pass filter, which costs a few pennies, doesn't make it into these mass-produced products- so you get raw digital synthesis. If you're like my mom and can't hear that high-pitched digital synthesis noise, it may not matter. But for the sake of my sanity, I hacked both the loudness and the screech with a 47uf capacitor across the speaker. Much improved- a bigger cap might be even better.

After much searching bought this for my 108 year old father. It is visable on the table being white and he can operate with his fingers or palm. Easy to reprogram. It was dropped once and wasnt working but it was just a matter of pushing in the batteries and it was good to go. Batteries have latest 3 months so far.

Bought for elderly father with failing eyesight. Easy to set time, date and even an alarm. Clear and quite loud speech which makes it easy to hear and understand. Large white button easy to find and press even when he wakes up during the night.

I bought this for my mom who is blind and has dementia. . She loves it. The clock has a clear voice and is easy to use. It tells the time, am and pm, also the date, month, and day. It also has grips on the bottom so it won’t fall off her bedside table. I’m so happy with this purchase: I hope it lasts a long time.

Bought this for my 90 year old mother-in-law who is almost blind. Her native language is not English but she finds the voice very clear and easy to understand. It is a little louder than we would like, but we just cut a piece of foam to act as a sound absorbing based for it. Would be nice if it had a high/low volume setting. Gives my mother-in-law great joy and independence, and is a great value, definitely worth 5 stars.

Bought for my father who has very little sight and no sense of passing time. Now he knows what time to eat or go out.
