Flexcut 5-piece Beginner's Palm Carving Set by Flexcut Tool

This kit is excellent for beginning woodworkers. Useful assortment of tools and sharp and useable right out of the box. The palm sized handles were the perfect shape for a good grip.

I use these tools for cutting linoleum. If you are a printmaker. These are your dream. They cut through wood and linoleum with little to no slippage. They are exceptionally sharp and are made of quality materials. The shape of the handle allows you to naturally and comfortably grip while you use it. If you are using it on wood, It may wear down more easily than say if you were cutting on linoleum. I would recommend getting a sharpening tool. but even then, this tool can go a long time with out being sharpened before going dull. This tool is very sharp and if you are a beginner using these tools, I would also recommend getting leather Finger guards, which prevent accidents. I am very careful and have cut myself twice with these tools, ( because i didnt put the guards on), and they seemlessly slice through your skin. I have made minor cuts that bled and i cannot imagine accidently majorly cutting yourself with these tools. As always, just use caution and take time when handling sharp tools.

really nice tools, sharp right out of the box. convenient storage box. Easy to sharpen tools. really great kit to get you started (assuming you already have a nice straight bladed knife)

These cut like a dream!! Though for the way I hold them I wish the handle was a bit larger. I had the impression I would be able to use my thumb and finger on the handle too, but it only (just) fits in your palm.. not really the way I use them. (I had a crappy Speedball prior to these but the handle had more coverage so it was more comfortable to hold). I don't know why they can't just have the handle cover the wide metal part a the base too, not sure why it's like that.

I bought these after using the crappy interchangeable ones beginners often use. I took a class in printmaking and the instructor had a set of these, so since I plan on making more hand it prints at home I decided to invest in good tools. These are comfortable in the hand and cut really well.

I am in a Printmaking class and decided to buy my own gouges. I am SO glad I did. These gouges cut through wood like butter and give me excellent control. I like the palm handle...I feel like it gives me more control and is easy to use with a mallet, as well. I also purchased the Mini set...and I believe I may get an A on this project!

Love flex cut products. They are wonderful quality and I these arrived on time. Would recumbent flex cut to anyone.

There's just something...basic about this set. I'm a novice user. I inherited some chisels from my father. Some of those were great, some were not. These, are in-between. The thinness of the stamped metal gives these a flex that can shake your confidence. You're not sure if the blade will pop out of the work and jump and gouge something/one. They are sharp and do cut. But I think I'd prefer a thicker tang and a more finished feel to the handle.
