A great wee tool for macro photography. I've had a lot of fun with this so far and I intend doing a lot more!The only drawback with this is the small locking screw which has to be removed after use if you intend keeping the bellows in their box.

The Fotodiox macro bellows is the least expensive bellows that I could find on the internet... it has ZERO fancy functions, and requires that you know what you're doing in order to get results that you'll like. However, if you are prepared to create some work-arounds, then I can whole-heartedly recommend this product. My box came within 3 days of placing the order, and arrived simply but ruggedly packaged wrapped in plastic and placed in a small cardboard box without any frills. Once I got it out of the box, I checked it over for any damage or pinholes and found it to be perfect in all aspects. At this point, I pulled my Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras off my camera and mounted the bellows....so far, so good. I then mounted the lens on the other side and, using the nicely knurled brass knob, I extended the bellows (which DID make a funny crinkling sound the first time I extended it, along with that "new car" smell!)and then used the locking knob to keep it in place.... With my 85mm lens, the working magnification ratio with the bellows all the way extended is something like 1.71:1, which is an almost TWICE life-sized image projected on the film/sensor!!!OK, now for the downside, and there is ONLY ONE:You MUST manually set the aperture BEFORE you mount the bellows to the camera, and then the lens to the bellows! The best method that I've found for doing this is to set your aperture in manual or Av mode, then use the Depth-of-Field preview button to stop down the lens....while STILL HOLDING DOWN THE D.O.F preview button, release the lens and pull it off the camera. You lens will stay at the aperture you've set!This method is great, but has some disadvantages....first and foremost that your viewfinder is now hopelessly dim if you aren't in A: very bright sunlight, or B: very bright studio strobes (and even with bright modeling lights, it's not easy to be SURE that you're tack sharp in the viewfinder!!!) In my experience, the easiest and best way to ensure sharp focus is to use LiveView if you've got it, as it allows you to zoom the preview and watch while you move the subject(better) or the camera/tripod/bellows/lens assembly(inconvenient) in and out to focus where you want it.As I stated earlier, I started using the excellent Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras on this bellows....with the lens mounted alone on my camera, I've never seen any CA, distortion, or much in the way of negative attributes at all from this lens...but on the bellows, ESPECIALLY wide open, there are all sorts of interesting foibles that crop up. The issue really is that you're using whichever lens you use just like an enlarging lens...the image circle that you'd normally use is just a bit more than your sensor's surface area, but once on the bellows, you're taking less and less of the image circle, enlarging it, and projecting JUST THAT PART of it onto your sensor. Kinda like cropping more and more and more, eventually, you're going to run into issues and whether they bother you or not is really up to you and your personal taste and how strictly your image quality requirements are. The shorter the focal length your lens is, the more you'll be magnifying the center portion of it's image circle...i.e, the greater your magnification ratio. 1:1 is accomplished by extending the bellows (it's marked in mm)to the same number as your focal length...if you've got a 50mm, extend it 50mm. With this 150mm bellows, you could get a 3:1 ratio with that same 50mm lens!Hope this helps you decide everyone! If you think that you can cope with the limitations I laid out above, I suggest you go ahead and buy this....after all, it's only $40!!!
