Works well but needs a thermal pad and benefits from a fan
I used this on the back of my 6800XT which has memory chips on the back of the card cooled by the backplate which is also in contact with the GPU chip, I wanted to see if this heatsink would reduce reduce the temperatures enabling me to run the card cooler and quieter. The net result was that when used with a 1mm self adhesive heatpad and 92mm fan blowing air over the heatsink the gpu hotspot temperature dropped by 14c !! It is important to note that I had previously dismantled that card, repasted the GPU and replaced the existing heatpads on the front and back of the card to ensure that the relevant components would benefit. The heatsink is held in place with 3 zip ties which don't add much pressure but are there to keep it in place in case it gets knocked, I applied pressure to the heatsink / card when fitting and so the self adhesive thermal pad is conducting the heat. The heatsink is fairly heavy so I would advise using a GPU brace I have the Asus ROG Herculx as per the photo.

Practical solution for fanless mini-PC; seems to work fine.
I bought this heat sink as a heat sink for a MeLe Quieter 3Q fanless mini-PC. I love the little PC and I trust MeLe will keep up the good work. It is reviewed elsewhere. However, I thought it prudent to add a loose-lying heatsink on top of the "cigarette box" -sized PC, because the room it is used in regularly goes into the 28-to-30C temperature range, despite this being in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I make sure the PC itself is placed on the (cold) metal base of the double-monitor stand and the heat sink lives on top of the PC. So the bottom of the PC is cooled by conduction and the top is cooled by heat conduction to the heat sink and heat radiation from the heat sink. It seems to work. We've never seen any indication of "throttling" of the PC by overheating. then again, it may well have happened in such fashion that we did not notice. Either way, we're happy with the solution. And, no, no thermal " grease or cement" has been used. It functions purely by gravity-contact with the PC.

Works Briliantly
My GTX 980Ti was overheating causing my games to crash... I'm running it at it's limit doing 1440p gaming. I realized the back-plate of the GFX card was hot enough to fry an egg. So I found this heatsink coupled with ARCTIC TP-3 thermal pads and now the game doesn't crash and the card runs 3 degrees cooler. A great addition to my system... I am now contemplating placing a 50cm cross-flow fan on the card.... however it gets a direct feed from my intake fans in my Corsair 4000D Airflow

Hard Drive TeraByte Sandwich
Worked great for cooling external USB 3.x hard drives during large multi-hour, multi TeraByte, data transfers. When backing up many TeraBytes, it can take half a day or more per drive - sometimes as much as 24 hours. This is because without cooling, many/most drives back off on their data rates as the internal temperature goes up: self preservation. With no cooling at all they were getting very warm and the transfer rates would go down from over 100 MBytes/sec to less than 10 MBytes/sec when the drives got hot. We sandwiched the drives (variously 4 TB and 5 TB) between pairs of these heatsinks back to back using large plastic spring clips. Even just on their edge & convection cooling it worked well. With a small fan they barely get warm. Sustained high data transfer rates were achieved with LaCie (the most temperature sensitive), Seagate, and Western Digital.
