Reliable Replacement for Waste King Disposals This Waste King splash guard and stopper set turned out to be an easy and worthwhile upgrade for my kitchen sink. The neoprene guard fits snugly in the drain, keeps water and food from splashing back up, and is simple to remove for cleaning. I like that it also comes with a stopper that creates a full seal, so I can fill the sink with water when needed without having to juggle an extra accessory. Installation couldn’t be simpler—just drop it into the opening and it’s ready to use. The material feels durable and flexible, much better than the worn-out original that had started to pop out during use. I’ve also noticed the disposer runs a bit quieter with this guard in place, which is a nice bonus. The only minor tradeoff is that water drains more slowly compared to a wide-open flange, but that’s pretty common with snug-fitting splash guards. For me, it’s actually reassuring since it helps prevent utensils from slipping into the disposal unnoticed. Our previous guard had started to pop out when we turned the disposer on. That made a big mess and was no fun at all. This new splash guard worked perfectly. It fits in the drain nice and firm, and does not simply pop out when the disposer is full and turned on. It also comes with a new stopper, which we didn't need, but we'll keep it just in case. Good product. Good price...

We have the Waste King L-8000 disposal and this is the first replacement drain cover we've gotten. I was a little nervous about the purchase because I'd seen some people complaining about it not fitting their disposal but it fit perfectly. Lots of negative reviews with comments about food not going down and this is true, unless I push it through, esp with smaller pieces. But I don't really have an issue with it as this feature also prevents silverware and other undesirable items from going down accidentally. Some have complained that it won't drain fast enough to keep up with their sink, my sink puts out a high volume of water and I do not have this problem at all. What I typically do is to turn on the water, put the stuff in and either push it down or pull the cover off for a moment, rinse whatever it is down, then replace the cover and turn on the disposal. The fact that the baffles fit tightly together is the thing that minimizes the noise coming from the disposal and with the splash guard on it is very quiet, people watching TV in the room can still hear it. After 3 years the splash guard that originally came with the disposal was completely toast and I threw it away. I had more issues with the original splash guard than I'm having with this one, very pleased with the new one. The original splash guard, for whatever reason had a terrible problem with the ground up food getting caught between the metal ring on the sink and the splash guard, so bad that if I did not remember to pull the splash guard out and rinse it after every disposal session sometimes the food would spoil and we'd get unpleasant odors until I cleaned it out. With the replacement splash guard I am not having these issues. I read the reviews about the guard not lasting very long so I bought two but so far no problems at all. The only negative I've encountered is the stopper itself - it's a tight fit and I've had issues getting it to completely prevent water from draining, I typically have to fiddle with it and it takes more than one try if I want the sink to hold water for say, half an hour or more.

Before buying this product, I saw a lot of negative reviews about how it wouldn't let food or water go down the drain because the rubber fins are too stiff... and that people kept having to "pull it out" to drain their sink. Have they not heard of the end of a utensil? Honestly, I have used garbage disposals almost my whole life, and this did complaint not make sense to me. I couldn't find many other products that fit my model disposal AND included the stopper for this price, so I went for this one despite the reviews making me a little hesitant. SURE ENOUGH, THIS PRODUCT WORKS FINE. It would seem that a lot of the people making negative reviews for this splash guard don't really understand the way these things are supposed to work. Maybe they had really worn out ones that came with their house/apartment when they moved in, and never saw one that functions normally? Not sure, but regardless, this thing keeps large chunks of food or foreign objects like utensils from going down the disposal by accident, like it should, and it also keeps the water down there from splashing up when the disposal is run, like it should. It does NOT prevent water from draining whatsoever (see my attached video). The fit in my Waste King disposal unit is pretty snug so I don't see it coming dislodged when I force larger food chunks down with the end of a utensil, which is sometimes necessary... but honestly you are not supposed to be putting most larger chunks of food into the drain anyway, read the garbage disposal manual if you don't believe me! Most bigger chunks of food could risk damaging or clogging the disposal and should be thrown in the trash, not down the drain. Smaller bits of food can still go down the central hole with the majority of the water.

This is actually a relatively well made product. It is sturdy rubber-like material and fits well as a replacement for my deteriorated OEM splash guard. My 3 star rating is based on the fact that water does not seem to be able to drain through the guard very well. If you have a full sink or run your water forcefully, the water simply cannot drain through the guard most likely due to the fact that the material is not flexible enough. Imagine trying to drain a sink through the small center hole. If the material was more flexible then the weight of the water would depress the flaps around the edges of the center hole (like the OEM guard did) and the water would "drop" through the guard. Unfortunately this is not the case and requires that you pull the guard out to allow for rapid drainage of the water in your sink. Overall it works reasonably well, but the inconvenience of having to pull it out or keep it inserted sideways (i.e. not flush with the disposal opening) to prevent water from pooling in the sink is unfortunate.

I had previously bought similar replacements from other brands and had been disappointed by their flimsy quality. This one is just the opposite! It works perfectly with a Waste King Legend model 1001. The rubber is thick enough, well built, and there is a good friction when inserting so it sits properly in place once inserted at its proper location. It may look just a tiny bit too wide when you start inserting it but this is on purpose! Once it is is at it's proper depth location it fits wonderfully. I am impressed with the high quality of the product for a reasonable price. I will definitely buy more when needed and highly recommend this product!
