William Golding’s unforgettable classic of boyhood adventure and the savagery of humanity comes to Penguin Classics in a stunning Graphic Deluxe Edition with a new foreword by Lois Lowry As provocative today as when it was first published in 1954, Lord of the Flies continues to ignite passionate debate with its startling, brutal portrait of human nature. William Golding’s compelling story about a group of very ordinary boys marooned on a coral island has been labeled a parable, an allegory, a myth, a morality tale, a parody, a political treatise, and even a vision of the apocalypse. But above all, it has earned its place as one of the indisputable classics of the twentieth century for readers of any age. This Penguin Classics Graphic Deluxe Edition features an array of special features to supplement the novel, including a foreword by Lois Lowry, an introduction by Stephen King, an essay by E. M. Forster, an essay on teaching and reading the novel and suggestions for further exploration by scholar Jennifer Buehler, and an extended note by E. L. Epstein, the publisher of the first American paperback edition of Lord of the Flies . For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators. Review: Outstanding edition - Unusually good discussion and references for further reading at the end of this edition, grouped by the topics the novel touches on. Review: This book is very good. For ages twelve and up. - Stephen King introduced the book. The book was very good.I saw the movie on TCM. The book was a little different. English boys from age six to twelve were stranded on an Island in the Pacific. A first they are nice. One boy whose name is never revealed, called Piggy meets Ralph. They find a Conch Shell and when they blow it; dozens of boys come from areas of the Island. As the days go by the boys get more cruel and three of them die.

Worth the read.
Having never read this in high school for some reason I decided at the age of 52 to give it a go. Never saw movie nor knew much about the story but was aware of its “classic” lore. Goodings imagery and symbolism are outstanding. Dont’t give up on it as the dialogue bounces a bit in my opinion. Great story that says so much in a timeless nature.

Beautiful Edition!
Very beautiful edition of Lord of the Flies! I really love how the cover folds out to other images…and I kept seeing in the reviews about the pages being uneven but it’s supposed to look that way…I actually really love when the pages look like that…I really love the cover art, it’s absolutely beautiful…I read this book in high school and I remember really liking it and I would really like to reread it…the book came in great condition as well…very happy!

Beware of quality control
I loved the book, but it came in with the pages looking like they had been cut wrong. Looked like the edges were cut by a dull knife.

Most beautiful copy of LotF
I’ve seen many so-so copies of Lord of the Flies, but this copy really made me want to read it. If anyone wants to buy a copy of the book, this is the best version in my opinion.
