Organic Bread of Heaven ~ Rustic Sourdough Bread - 2 loaves ~ USDA Organic

OMG! I love this bread! It's perfect, just what I was looking for. Allergies rule my world these days; I've had to make serious dietary changes due to an "aspergillus" allergy; nuts, beans, grains, etc. This bread is "okay'd" for my dietary restrictions; it is delicious toasted, and I add a little "caraway seed" on top of mine. This bread is the perfect evening snack with coffee or tea. I know two things, I'll be back for more, and I love it! Thank Organic Bread of Heaven.

I love this bread. My husband is picky about his bread. I toasted a slice of bread enough to heat it, then butter and served it to him just as I brought it into the house. After about 3-4 bites, he stated this is way bread should taste and requested another slice. It has been a great experience buying bread to be shipped and getting something better than expected. 🙂🫠🙃🫠🙂

I recently moved to south central Indiana from the west coast. Myself, my brother, and both of my parents all have the same “wheat issue.” We are not gluten intolerant (though mostly eat gluten free because it’s easier) but cannot tolerate regular, modern wheat. But spelt sits right with all of us! Anyways, I cannot find spelt products in the place I’m now living, and have not refined my spelt bread baking to the point of having a reliable loaf to make. And I just started law school, so I really don’t have time to be playing with baking when I hardly have time to heat up my pre-prepped meals and eat 😂 I ordered this bread, while very pricey, thinking it would be a one time thing for convenience the first few weeks of school. Well, one loaf has lasted me about 3 weeks, and I’m about to pull the second from the freezer. My toaster is a POC but this makes a nice piece of toast w/ butter/PB/avocado. I loveeee that it is naturally cultured and has no yeast though I do wish it tasted a bit more sour. Long story short, this bread is pricey, but for my circumstances I think it will be worth buying on a semi-regular basis to have a healthy, convenient option. I am hoping that if I order 4 loaves next time, shipping will be a little less than 2 orders. Okay, my first review hasn’t even been approved yet, but I have to update it. After writing this, I decided to look up the bakery, thinking it might be a little cheaper to order through them directly. IT IS! And I found out, they’re an Indiana company! Sadly, not within a distance justifiable to pick up bread for me. BUT not only is the bread and 1-day shipping cheaper through them, they also have 100% spelt buns! I will definitely be ordering through them when I run out. So excited by this :)

Arrived quicker than expected and nicely packaged with great instructions and ingredients listed. I really wanted to like this bread but it was just okay. It was very bland and very dry with a sourdough taste. It’s just okay toasted or warmed up but it wasn’t a bread for me to eat right out of the bag nor a bread to eat just plain with nothing on it. I don’t mind spending the money on a tasty healthy bread but this didn’t work for me.

The bread's OK, but it tastes far more like plain old wheat bread than rye or sourdough. It's also very dense and heavy, which is not awful, but I can't imagine why they don't use yeast. One slice with butter is as filling as a whole meal! I have the second loaf in the freezer, and will be using it for french toast. They seem a nice little family company, but I won't be buying this again. The shipping cost was crazy high! Guess I'll go back to experimenting with rye bread recipes and bake it myself. One caveat, folks . . . be sure to keep this bread in the fridge. It's obviously very healthy, which means the mold will adore it if you store it in your bread box.
