Bussmann CB185-50 CB185 Series Automotive Circuit Breaker (Plug In Mounting, 50 Amps, Blade Terminal Connection)

I recently installed a 24v trolling motor on one of my boats. 3 years ago, I installed a 24v trolling motor on my primary boat and purchased the OEM Minn Kota circuit breaker. For this application, I decided to take a chance on the Bussmann breaker since it was a fraction (20%) of the cost of OEM Minn Kota. The breaker arrived and looks identical to the Minn Kota breaker I used on the other boat. Perhaps Bussmann makes breakers for Minn Kota. I don't know and can't verify that. Operation is good and the breaker has a strong mechanical action. I believe it should last for a long time.

I used this for the first time this last weekend and it worked as it says it should. I have it mounted on the top of the battery box on my pontoon boat. After connecting it to the battery via separate battery cables (don't forget you will need them), I connected it to my electric motor an now have no worries about it. Not only does it take the place of a fuse, and it is so much easier than replacing fuses, I also use it as the on and off switch for the motor. Bravo. I occasionally install fuse boxes in my vehicles for auxiliary equipment, and put one of these in line to the battery. Never had one trip, but I've also never blown one of the fuses in those fuse boxes. So, technically, I've never tested the capability of these as circuit breakers. That being said, they're also useful if you want to turn off all the aux equipment (e.g., you're loaning the vehicle to a family member whom you don't trust to play with all the cool toys, or who doesn't give a rip about the cool toys and would just turn them off anyway, or leaving the vehicle at the mechanic who, again won't appreciate the cool toys and will just turn them off). One thing to be aware of is that you should use the heaviest gauge wire available in conjunction with a circuit breaker like this, as 50 amps is quite a bit of current.

Well build good price for the quality of the product. I have used this on a RV battery/ invertor system and has preformed well. It is easy to install, well made and compared to other fusses a much better chose.

Protects my 12v battery charging circuit in EV conversion S10. Had 50a blade fuse which always heated up & connections corroded = poor connections. Circuit breaker has screw terminal connections for solid connection. Have used same CB (under hood) for my elec power steering motor for 4 years & has always worked fine. I stick with tried & true brand names for critical elec components = you DO get what you pay for!!

Bought this to bypass a troublesome 50a fuse on my APU. A right pain removing the cover to the Thermo King APU and each time the fuse blew it was $5 - an expensive fuse !! Biggest problem was wrestling with the cover of the APU. $40 or $50 each time to get a mechanic to do it. Tapped into the fuse holder and ran it up into the sleeper. Drilled a hole and screwed it onto the sleeper berth kicker panel. No further problems. The APU still charges the batteries ok - this was a concern of mine. Hasn't interfered in daily life at all except that you must be careful not to accidentally brush by the red reset button. That will disconnect the apu and result in a flat battery pack.
