Are you a Highly Sensitive Person? If so, this workbook is for you. Do noise and confusion quickly overwhelm you? Do you have a rich inner life and intense dreams? Did parents or teachers call you "too shy" or "too sensitive"? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). High sensitivity is a trait shared by 20 percent of the population, according to Dr. Elaine Aron, a clinical psychologist and workshop leader and the bestselling author of The Highly Sensitive Person . The enormous response to her book led Dr. Aron to create The Highly Sensitive Person's Workbook , designed to honor that long-ignored, trampled-on part of yourself--your sensitivity. A collection of exercises and activities for both individuals and groups, this workbook will help you identify the HSP trait in yourself, nurture the new, positive self-image you deserve, and create a fuller, richer life. You will be able to: Identify your specific sensitivities with self-assessment tests Reframe past experiences in a more positive light Interpret dreams and relate them to your sensitivity Cope with overarousal through relaxation, breathing, and visualization techniques Describe your trait in a work interview or to an unsympathetic family member, new friend, doctor, or therapist Review: Great book - Very helpful and informative workbook Review: Affirming Moving Past Abusive Persons and Behaviors.. - Really helps you to inwards and do your homework and helped me understand where I was at in appreciating all creation and nature around me and my very competent core self. Like sun and breeze on skin and sound beauty of humming birds and breezes and my own sense of self. It validated how I appreciate everyone and everything around me and validated my experience stay integral and not be a door mat to unwelcoming currents and persons, even, of course, they were "well meaning." I highly recommend. It is something you could continually go back to over a life time. It is a welcoming addition to my library and is now like literary great work such as fiction because how much helped me appreciate wisdom and grace and inner peace I developed over the past several years or more. Husband loves it as well!

Sensitive people need this book!!
This book was a recommendation from a friend. I have a degree in psychology but I had never heard of being highly sensitive. I have heard about being an empath in a more "new age" way and this is the scientific explanation for being an empath. Absorbing other people's energies, being sensitive to noises, people, situations all rang a bell for me. I did buy the original book but I wouldn't say you need to get both. This can definitely be read on its own. I love the exercises. Some are a little weird, and I wouldn't have thought to give feelings a gender or a voice but it ended up being very interesting and actually helped work though some of the emotions I had been holding in. This is like therapy in a book. While I wouldn't suggest using this book alone as therapy it is definitely a start. If you are sensitive get this book NOW!

Some helpful info from a new angle
I purchased this with one child in mind but quickly found that it applied more to another. My minimally sensitive but very observant child enjoyed the assessments, identified with several chapters and applied a couple of the coping self-calming techniques. My Truly sensitive child has an affinity for the written word and found the Authorโs limited vocabulary & stunning overuse of descriptors such as โarousalโ & โhighly sensitiveโ Very Annoying. Not โarousingโ. Annoying.

The perfect companion to the HSP book.
If you are serious about understanding being a highly sensitive person and want to, ". . . Thrive When the World Overwhelms You," this book can be very helpful. It caused me to think hard about what I'd read in The Highly Sensitive Person; consider what I must do to overcome any obstacles and make positive changes in my life. Sometimes - even when I know what I must do - I procrastinate, then let things that can be helpful to me go by the wayside. This workbook made me plow ahead and do what had to be done. I appreciate that. The two volumes, The Highly Sensitive Person and the woorkbook are certaily well worth the time, effort and few dollars invested in them.

TERRIFIC BOOK for the Shy or Nervous/Anxious Person
Can't offer enough positive commentary about this book. It's been around awhile but wish I had found it sooner. Being one of those remarkable 20% of the population who are born with very sensitive nervous systems, I had no idea this was a genetic trait. Equally importantly, it is a highly valuable commodity both personally and publicly, for society. That is - if this type of person understands the trait and how to work WITH IT, rather than fight against it or merely hide from life because he or she is so embarrassed about it. This book and the accompanying series are self esteem boosting for sensitive/shy/environmentally overstimulated people and while every description will not fit every individual to a T, there is enough meat in here for sensitive souls to survive upon for perhaps the rest of your lives. Why hate yourself or allow others to shun you for being VALUABLE, UNIQUE and GIFTED? That is the primary lesson of this book.

WOW ... where was this 20 years ago!
The original book was recommended to me by a friend...she was reading this and thinking "wow, that explains why I am like this!" I read it and was thinking "you mean not everyone is like this???" We both came at this book from two different viewpoints...but ended up in the same place. AMAZED! This book has probably changed my life (for the better)...it sure has helped me understand the things I experience, as well as that not everyone experiences the same things that I do. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book and looking forward to digging into the workbook supplement as a great tool!
