Why the crazy price hike?

Crazy, I just ordered this 5 gal. bucket ( 160 gal ) and the price almost doubled ? Sooo, I drove a few miles to buy at Petco for about $40.00 w/tax, " Come on Man "

Can you use this for hermit crabs?

Yes, you can use this to make drinking/soaking water for tropical land hermit crabs. Just be sure they always have TWO WATER DISHES - one with de-chlorinated fresh water and one with brackish or salt water such as this. The dishes need to be deep enough for them to fill their shells with water if they want, but must have sponge or some driftwood in them for easy access in and out. Few people realize they need salt water as well as fresh, kudos to you for inquiring! If you know which species you have, you should google to find out any specific quirks or requirements.

Ratio (ingredient weight to water volume) for brackish water condition?

Typically, we recommend starting with 1/4 cup of salt to one gallon of water. This is half the amount used to make full marine conditions. You will need a hydrometer or refractometer to test the salinity. You need 1.010 - 1.015.

If I have a 39 gallon tank, what size should I buy?

You'll always need to make water for water changes so buying in bulk saves money. if you go to the web site it will tell you the exact amount per gallon
