Adventure in a Can... Rare Find Seafood
I love eating unusual and exotic foods. And this is a good example. Great presentation from the label to the open can. I was not expecting such colorful contents. The way each one is delicately packed with care tells me that the Matiz Company really cares about their name and their product. Upon opening the can you will get a waft of seafood odor. Not so pleasant to some, but to a seafood aficionado, it calls to the senses. Even seems to bring one closer to the seashore even if that shore is hours away. I was expecting the typical dark smokey oyster appearance, but no so. These appear just as if they had been shucked moments ago. As for taste, they are heavily on the steamed clam level. As for texture, they are chewy. Not mushy or pasty at all. They would likely go very well with a salmon or whitefish dip on crackers. But for those who must have that burst of sea creature impact, then consume them as is with a toothpick. They are rather expensive, so share your can with others... so all can have part of the experience. Watch the video to get a much better explanation. Hope this helps.

YUM
Very happy with the product I received. I love trying new and interesting foods. I am impressed with the salt brine. It tasted so fresh and salty. Just like ocean water. If you like oysters you know what I mean. The only thing I wish I would have done was chilled the can for a day before I opened them.

Very Salty
In the can that I purchased, these cockles were very tiny, salty and soft. The flavor of the sea was present, but I didn't enjoy the saltiness or the texture. There was also a bit more liquid than I was expecting. Many of the products from Matiz are very good but this wasn't one of my favorites.

Briny, tender, delicious
I've never had cockles so I wasn't sure what to expect. They were a bit salty from the brine and deliciously mild flavored and tender. I had mine over rice with kewpie, sambal, furikake, some microgreens, and a scoop of crab salad. Separately or mixed into the pile of other ingredients, they were subtle and very tasty. I ate the rest of the can without any adornment and they were still great.

Really good, even on their own
If you like the taste of fresh shellfish, specifically oysters, or a powerful taste of muscles, this is for you. I ate them drained and fresh out of the can. I could see how these would be phenomenal tossed in from fresh pasta with olive oil and freshly cracked black pepper. The only thing I wasn’t a terribly large fan about is, there seems to be a an extremely fine particulate trapped in a small amount. This being my first time eating them, I didn’t know if that was normal. Nonetheless- I will absolutely be buying them again.

They’re decent.
Never had baby clams so I just ordered to try them out. I heard a lot of people complaining about grit but I wanted to ignore them.. I shouldn’t have. These do have grit; probably one out of every two. The taste is fine but sand/grit in food is just something I can’t get over.

Tasty
I bought this product to try a “different” canned seafood. In that, it was a fail. These taste and look very much like any canned baby clams. I didn’t know what I was expecting, so that was a disappointment, I suppose. They were very tasty, and very whole (there wasn’t any sign of overcooking, or falling apart), and the broth was also worthy of being mopped up with bread. As for me personally, now that I have tried them, I can probably stick with cheaper baby clams that are available from local stores, since these weren’t markedly different to make the price justified (to me). I am giving them five stars, because they were good in every way, and obviously high quality. It’s not their fault it wasn’t what I was looking for on that particular day.

All sand and grit! Avoid!
Cockles are full of sand and grit. Do not buy these, the quality control is very poor. These are inedible and very expensive. I am really disappointed in this product, because Matiz usually is known for high quality canned seafoods. Hard pass. Do not buy these. They are full of sand and grit. I asked for a refund because they are inedible.
