Immediate power surge
I have used these gels for several years now, after trying many other brands. I use them primarily for triathlon training and racing and they work great. Very easy on my stomach, taste pretty good, and most importantly provide an immediate power boost. I’m always surprised how quickly my body seems to be able to absorb and use the fuel!

Like them
Always hard to say if these ‘work’ since when I use them Im in a race but i think they do their job. They don't taste bad either. Just be sure to be hydrated well before (maybe 12-24hrs before) because i get headaches if i don't. But that also could be from other factors. But doesn't hurt to be hydrated!

Top-Shelf Gels I Can Depend on
Gu's have been around for about 25 years and the're still improving them. The first Gu I squeezed out was during a 199 mile Relay from Calistoga Ca to Santa Cruz. I'd completed one leg in the heat of the day in Napa County, a second at 1:00 a.m. just across the Golden Gate Bridge and out along Ocean Beach under a full moon, and was psyched to set a PR on a 10K downhill leg from the top of the Santa Cruz Mountains, descending 1,500 feet. And I BONKED half way through the leg. Thankfully, a teammate hung his arm out the team van window with my first-ever GU. He told me to squeeze it into my mouth, swallow it and wash it down with a few swallows of water. I swear that within 2-3 minutes my legs were back. I took off down the hill and could not believe what had just happened. I've been a fan ever since. I use GU regularly and applaud their shifting towards plant-based products. Today I'm all about road biking, but I learned long ago, that refueling during endurance workouts or events is critical. For the really tough rides I upgrade to their Roctane product but their energy Original gels are my regular "friend", giving me boosts before I ride, and every 45 minutes during my rides. I'd be going a lot slower without them.

Great, but for the packaging
Good flavor, and the formulation really works to get me going and keep me going on the trail when I'm biking. Only one weakness, which might make me lean toward a competitor - the tab you have to rip off the top is annoying. It slows me down gets my fingers sticky, since I don't want to litter. After I eat the gel, I tuck the top tab back into the opening where the gel squeezes out before stuffing the package back in a pocket for later disposal. One of the other brands has a clever little "leash" on the tab, so it doesn't get away.

Performance food, not yummy snack
Awesome for long-distance runs. When you start to get "dopey-legs", chug one of this nasty frosting packets and you can keep running for miles. Yes the texture is gross. You open it, squeeze it in your mouth-hole, and swallow. It's like that so you don't have to chew and probably won't choke to death running while eating like your mother warned you not to. Flavors are gross because they are so, so sweet. That's great though, because when you really, really need them, they're delicious.

Phenomenal for my diabetic husband
I read about GU as a sport supplement (like Gatorade) but I immediately thought about my diabetic husband who has trouble with his blood sugar dropping too low when he exercises. We got it for him to try out and it is wonderful. There is nothing else he's found to bring him back as quickly from a sugar low. He now carries one in his pocket when we head out for our 6 mile walk. He also keeps one in each of the cars and his briefcase. There is no comparison between those glucose tablets they sell for diabetics and GU. GU gets him feeling better within 15 minutes- he swears the glucose tabs don't work for him at all. And it comes in an amazing array of flavors. GU is great! If you or someone you love is a diabetic who is plagued with going low- I highly recommend you try it out.

A true picker-upper
Ok, I am not a banana type of guy even though I know a banana is good on a long bike ride, but I can't stomach them. About 60 miles into the ride, I start to drag and start wishing the ride was over. Solid energy bars or even fig bars once again don't settle well with me an I experience zero positive effect. I was skeptical of gel but became a believer after a friend gave me one about 60 miles into the ride. This is the first energy 'fix' that I can say I noticed an immediate response. I was enjoying the rest of the ride and riding strong . It then dawned on me that I was not wishing the ride to end! The gel is easy on my stomach (as long as I drink plenty of water) and is quickly assimilated. The result is exactly what I would have wish for. I recommend the Lemon lime because it's not heavy on the caffeine. One more thing, much easier to carry than a banana.

It's like THICK lemon curd in a small pack. The first time I tried one I squeezed and nothing came out... I thought I'd torn it in the wrong place. You have to really squeeze to get it out which is a good thing as it doesn't then run down your arm and get everywhere. The bad thing is you need to drink with it but it's also fun "chewing" on something (in between gasping for air - it is for racing with after all).

This gel is a lifesaver! I used the lemon GU gel during both of my marathons and it gave me the energy boost I needed without upsetting my stomach. Tastes good (not too sweet), easy to take on the go, and really works. Definitely a must-have for long runs or races. 5 stars!
