Yes, they come up to my waist and the legs are tapered slightly. They do not hug my calf. I like the way these pants fit. I hope that helps.

Do the dark colored chinos fade quickly?

Not at all. My Son's are for work and I have washed them several times. They have actually held up better than some of the more expensive pants he owns. I will buy more in other colors.

Go with what you wear in a dress pant size, not a jean size. I wear a 31" 32" in jeans. In this slim fit cut I wear 33" 30" and they are perfect. I'm 5'10, 170
