I was asked to get a "radial prod2 2-channel passive instrument direct box", is this a comparable product? what are the differences?

Hi! The first difference is that IMP2 has 1 channel and Prod2 has 2 channels. So, the IMP2 will receive 1 unbalanced signal in a TRS jack and sens 1 balanced in a XRS jack while the prod2 will do 2 of this. The other thing you need to compare is the attenuation level that between them. Look at the tech specs.Regards!

Isn't this the exact same thing as the behringer ultra-di di400p with a whirlwind logo on it?

Behringer just makes cheap junk that's a poor copy of another product. This DI might look like the Behringer there's no way it's the same components inside.

I need to extract the stereo mini jack output of my ipad to separate mono l and r to the sound mixer; is this a good match?

You can use two of these with RCA to 1/4" adapters, or you can use a PCDI. They make a PCDI with the mini jack cable attached as well.

I have a 1/4 ts "line out" mic set that needs to go to a usb device 1/4 ts mono "mic input". connect directly causes huge buzz. will this device help?

That buzz is most likely caused by the fact that it’s a usb device, converting the analogue signal to a digital signal. I don’t think this will help. Plus, this box has an XLR output, not a 1/4 inch output, so you would have to adapt the cord before the usb device input as well, which I’m never a fan of.
