Bought this for crafting with foam. The set has rigid tips, but the wire is the best top to use. Very satisfying to use!

Got for my sons train set up so he can make different things and it works amazing. It cuts like butter and is much fun. When you first try it out make sure your either outside or have something under the job till your use to it.

I was really excited when I received my order, as I had a project already halfway complete, and I was just waiting on this to "finish" cutting the foam and complete the project. I'm not sure if it was me, or it was this cutter, but it was not anywhere close to neat/smooth/clean cuts. Every "cut" I made the foam kind of gooped up on the wire, and left a very jagged and uneven cut no matter how steady I was. I tried going a little quicker, and it seemed to not cut as fast as I was going, thus leaving uneven jagged cuts. I tried going a little slower, and the foam seemed to melt and get really goopy all over the wire; the cuts were neater/straighter/cleaner (still left just a little melted/goopy foam behind though), but I had to keep stopping every couple of inches to wipe down the wire and/or try to scrape the goop off. Again, this is my first time working with this device, ever, so it may not be the device's "fault"; it could absolutely be operator error! Regardless, it was not nearly as easy, clean, and neat as I saw in many videos, but hopefully with more practice, it will get better. Overall, whether it was my fault or the device's fault, it still cut the foam and got the job done (not the prettiest, but it worked).

Works awesome

I was very skeptical about this working, especially because the price was reasonable. I used it to make party backdrops out of foam insulation boards. And let me emphasize has easy it was to create shapes I wanted. It left the smoothest edges I didn't even need the sand paper I got. If you have similar projects I highly recommend this tool.

One of the coolest gadgets I ever introduced into my art room. Slices through styrofoam like buttah! Gives off some noxious fumes but that’s the price you pay for melting styrofoam. None of my students know what to call it so they usually use hand motions to describe it or come up with weird names for it. Be super careful because it is hot hot hot! I always demo it first and say a prayer a kid doesn’t go rogue and brand themselves or me. So far so good!

Really bummed by the quality of this, especially since it has so many good reviews. I got this for building a gecko terrarium, using pond and stone stray foam and regular insulation foam. I was also hoping to use this for game related terrain building, but it’s unreliable and I didn’t even get to finish half of my first project. All the attachment parts were flimsy and breaking at the seam on the plastic handle. The wire was super weak and kept breaking. It’s disappointing that the spool of wire they send you is so tiny when it’s prone to breaking often. Also, it was so difficult to even put the wire on when it did break because the groves in the metal weren’t deep enough to really hold the wire. It would have been better if it has a hole to slide the wire through. I tried using this today for just one project - and had to replace the wire five times. I swear I was being gentle, but it just kept failing. I was really looking forward to having this tool for all sorts of cool things. :(

This heat cutter is very flimsy and takes very little pressure to break it. Saying that, after scissor trimming the foam I was cutting to make it narrower, the heat cutter did trim it smoothly. It is very slow but did work. It heats very quickly and also cools quickly. I did not try the other tips to make an observation. This is not an item that I would recommend.

I need it to make props for the theatre, so I'm cutting a lot of foam. Maybe I'm impatient, but sometimes it's easier to cut foam with a bread knife, although that doesn't work for fine detail work.
