Better than the alternatives
Stop using those Zwilling pull-through sharpeners—they don't compare to the Work Sharp WSCMB Combo Sharpener. Just a reminder, I am not sponsored. I switched to this because it’s much more consistent. It gives my knives a clean factory edge every time. It’s not necessarily going to give you a professional razor edge, but for everyday use at home, it’s exactly what you need to keep your tools functional and sharp.

Excellent value
A+. I was shocked at how quickly, and perfectly this product sharpened my kitchen knives. I sharpened about ten knives, to a very sharp edge in less than a half hour. That includes unboxing. I work with my hands for a living, so maybe I had an advantage. My girl of ten years watched me sharpen, and I’m confident she can do the same, in the Sam’s amount of time. Keep in mind, this is not a professional grade sharpener. However, it is a great sharpener to have in a kitchen for quick sharpening. Great product!

It had one job... and it did it like a champ
Excellent sharpener. I highly recommend it. I needed to sharpen kitchen knives. Wow, what a difference! I gradually got used to them getting duller. Having an actual long hone would be better than using the little one mounted on the machine. But it did knock the burr off and they're literally better than new.

Very good, but not perfect
All knives will get dull from use. ALL of them. There are no knives that don't ever need to be sharpened into infinitum that get regular use. The Work Sharp Combo Sharpener is the right solution for: 1) People who do not, will not, cannot, won't, refuse to and hate to sharpen and hone their knives. 2) People who can hone, but who eventually have to restore the knife to adjust the grind on it, or put simply, people who don't put their knives on diamond sharpeners for much too long and then dull the hell out of them past the point where diamond stone hand sharpening isn't doing enough to reprofile the blade. 3) People like me who pick up good knives at thrift stores and the like that were abused by folks mentioned above and who needs to go through a number of them to save hours of work with hand stones. My recommendation would be not to be in the first or second group listed. Hone your knives between uses. Sharpen on diamond hand stones periodically as needed. I have a number of $150-$200 chef knives (new, retail) that I bought second hand that are as dull as the back edge of my butter knives. I don't know why people who can't be bothered to sharpen a $200 knife would buy a $200 knife, but I digress. Their loss, my gain. But if you find yourself in need of a power tool for knives, this one is ok. Not great, but useful. Here are the pros and the cons. Let's start with the good: 1) Works as advertised. If you place it in, stay in tune with the alignment angle guide and move it at the recommended one inch per second alternating passes on each side, it removes material and sharpens an otherwise dull knife. 2) I had watched some videos yet still found myself a little surprised at how compact it is. This is a good thing. 3) Changing belts is a breeze. Seriously easy to do. No muss. No fuss. 4) Replacement belts are affordable and can be bought in varied grits which is a realy plus. 5) Very stable on the surfaces I use. Doesn't slide or vibrate around at all. The cons: 1) Included sandpaper belts are fairly abrasive. Under magnification, they really cut fairly deep into the edge. What this means is that they cut "teeth" deep enough that it's hard to smooth it out on a stone unless you use a very, very coarse one. I suspected this would be the case, so I ordered different grit belts to help smooth out those cuts before moving to ceramic. 2) Speaking of ceramic... The included ceramic stick is not great. It's small, unweildy to use at the appropriate angle and too smooth after that rough grit sandpaper to really smooth out the grooves in the edge. 3) The sharpener limits you to one sharpening angle. While I understand this helps maintain a low price point, I don't want the same edge angle on all of my knives. I have found that I can free-hand a bit, though it's not wise if you don't have a steady hand. Suggestion, Work Sharp: Sell face plates with different blade angles. I'm ok with paying more for a 15 and a 20 degree angle guide face plate. 4) It's not obnoxious, but it is a little noisy. I am ok with that. I think it's better than a 3, but closer to a 3 than a 5. If you have to plow through a pile of dull knives, it does speed things up, but I still think those who value their knives will want to finish with some hand sharpening after use.

Worth the money
Used this on my Chicago Cutlery and it was easy to operate. Better yet, my knives are sharp like when I bought them 10 years ago.

Great for a good basic edge
Works great, still trying to learn how to get the best edge but easy to operate and great for anyone that doesn’t have time to do a traditional sharpening

I want to love this unit, but it doesn't meet my needs.
I really wanted to love this sharpener. I recently purchased a water stone, a Ken Block Sharpener, and a couple of "ripper" style sharpeners. I can get a decent sharp edge with all of them, but I want a crazy sharp edge. I, also, don't want to pay $355 for a pro system. This Work Sharp will not get you the crazy sharp edge. Maybe, if I were more skilled with the ceramic rod, I could get a better edge. I will say that you can keep a very nice working edge on your knives with this tool. It would work well for kitchen duty and people that aren't half OCD in wanting that high carbon steel blade that is sharp as a scalpel. Unfortunately, that's me. So, I contacted Work Sharp and told them I was dissatisfied and I thought that the Amazon reviews had a lot of fakery in them. I do believe that is true because people are saying that this unit will give you a razor sharp edge with ease. I've sharpened 6 knives with it, with decent results, but I don't find it delivering on those claims. They offered an upsell for the Ken Onion or the next higher unit for a big discount. I am going to go for the upsell and give this unit to my sister. It is partly my fault because I wanted the best value and "idiot-proof" unit and should have bought the....better unit. This unit will be great in a kitchen for consistently sharp knives for food prep and keeping your pocket knife pretty sharp. It's a well-engineered unit. I would advise not to use the belt too often because it does remove a lot of material. I could recommend this sharpener highly if you want a tool to make knife sharpening easy and aren't concerned with having the sharpest knife on the block, so to speak.

I read some of the other product reviews and was struck by how many people seem to misunderstand what they bought. Used properly this is a handy contraption. It's a lot less capable than the full-sized Ken Onion edition - but with patience you can achieve a lot. This is not a replacement for a full-size belt grinder. If you're a knife maker it probably could put an edge on a knife blank you DIY'd, but it's going to take a long time on this little unit. The motor is not very powerful, the belt is small and it is spinning pretty slow. If you press the knife with any significant pressure into the belt it will slow the machine down - but that's not how it's supposed to be used. It is better to make more passes with only very light pressure than to press hard or move the blade very slowly to grind extra material. I also like to lift the blade away from the belt once it reaches the tip. If you pull it all the way out it is easy to round the tip (and you'll read lots of complaints about this if you google it). The first time you sharpen a knife it is also important to realize you may be changing the factory grind angle. Especially for kitchen knifes which often have a very steep angle and a delicate edge. Outdoor knives are more likely to already be at or around the angle this machine is set too because they need to stand up to more abuse. Even for kitchen knives though, I'd rather use this belt than those other powered sharpeners that use abrasive stones. Once the angle is set, you won't need to grind as much the next time. Here's a few tricks to maximize utility. 1. It comes with a single, non-adjustable preset sharpening angle of 25 degrees. However, you can sharpen at any angle if you find some way to hold the knife steady by hand. The easiest second angle to achieve is to hold the knife vertical for a steeper angle relative to the belt - such as for kitchen knives (though it can be tricky to do this steadily on a long blade). 2. Even though the tool is low-powered, it is still basically a mini belt grinder. I remove the guide and use it for non-knife stuff too. E.g. sharpening drill bits, putting a new tip on my awl, fixing up marred flat blade screwdrivers, sharpening gasket scrapers, smoothing small parts etc. The slow speed of the belt and low power can actually be a benefit - you can work slowly. 3. Work sharp doesn't sell replacement belts in any other grits - but you can find them. The belt size is 1/2" x 10". Here's a link to a set I bought: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07ZF31KY1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm sure Worksharp offers only one grit on purpose to discourage people from using this base-model unit instead of paying for the better and more expensive versions. The other versions are more powerful and offer more angle options - but with patience and different belt grits I'm confident I'm achieving similar results. 4. The hone is also meant to be used gently. Avoid the temptation to push down hard. Better to do 20 super light passes than 3 where you push hard. You're just making sure the edge burr is lined up straight. That's easier to get correct with some light touches than potentially pushing it back and forth with forceful passes on alternating sides.
