TIVOLI Japanese Tanto Knife โ Fixed Blade
Update a short time later 11Feb'26: Indeed the handle was likely a tad dry from storage - it's tight now. It takes an edge refreshing well - I like and kind of "demand", how to say that ... a "sharp" knife. This metal is a great chemistry in my experience with all kinds of metallurgy. I've gotten used to the wider blade thickness at the top for a kitchen knife with it's notches - I'm upping it from 3-stars to 5 and also because of the price point. One could easily get a sheath and use it as a on the belt utility knife, etc. if even a tad short for that, it's a nice knife. I looks like it will hold up as is well from what I've seen and may anticipate from this. =========================================== Initial review: It's a great knife and appears as described. Keep in mind that it is as it says (didn't measure) 4mm thick - looks it. Anyway, so when cutting through something, will push apart and split unlike a thinner blade as many are. It's not a negative in any way, just keep that in mind if never had one this thick. It arrives well sharpened, as I hoped - not disappointed. I've not gone to sharpen it yet - I presume will perform as described, that metal composition. One other thing to keep in mind are the Handles. There's the slightest giggle but it's there. I presume it's been kept dry so when usual humidity and washing has it's affect - would tighten up. If not, well, I can live with it or tap the rivets. It would have been nice if threaded versus I presume compression fit so could be tightened. I believe it said the wood was walnut - not the variety I've worked with but seems hard, dense anyway. As small a piece these are I was surprise there was any blemish or "knot" - but there is one so a low spot they tried to sand flat. And, knots tend to "move". Again, if did a replace - what would I then get? So, it may well be hand finished, made. Anyway, I am just trying to be accurate in what I got. It's a great knife regardless. As long as the handles don't split, etc. Then it's a project knife and was not looking for that. Then, if repurchased and got this would do a replace. Anyway, I hope that helps someone make a decision.

This knife is well built but VERY small
This is very nice. It looks and feels great but is is VERY small with no sheath. Calling it a Butcher Knife is misleading. Call it what it is. Itโs a well built for finishing and detail work - not butchering.

Very impressive product
I bought this for a White Elephant gift with my family for Christmas and it was a big hit. My nephew ended up with it and he loved it, still uses it and prizes it months later. Comes in handy when he works on a construction site. Itโs super sharp, lightweight and easy to travel with and clean. Great gift!

Nice, Small well constructed and very handy.
Nice set of knives, was not very sharp out of the box but with some minor sharpening with a home sharpener they kept a good edge. Small but very handy. Fits well in an outdoors camp cook bag. Well constructed.

Smaller than expected, however..
Sharp little knife. Works well. Was expecting bigger, but it is what it is.

Plenty of reasons to carry this as a Choice
Leather worker sharp, goes through multi layer hide builds well. I can see this for outdoor light camp work, and still be a good addition to the home bench. A good sheath makes this all come together. I can see it as a body guarding tool that mostly needs no permit, pretty intimidating and opens a bottle if needed. Looks great, clean and solid construction. I sharpen with emory 800 + grit on a hard base, that and a touch of leather strop does the job. Grip: Solid wood, clean build. haven't tested hardness yet. Functionality: Definately a serious blade in a belt pouch size. Quality: Sooth and clean, just a few leather shop cuts, good ones.

Cutting edge. Like, really sharp cutting edge.
Even my Alabama wife agrees that the folks in the far north got it right inventing this knife form. It's perfect for every kitchen duty and prolly is good in hand-to-gland combat.
