Best Sound Machine
My baby loves the hatch. Loved it so much that we bought one for our room cause we couldn’t sleep without it when he transitioned to sleeping alone. Quality is excellent. Super easy to set up. If you have multiple kids, no problem. You can switch between different rooms to get to their settings super easy. The sounds don’t sound funny like some other sound machines that I’ve had to replace. There is a several different colors and great brightness levels too. You won’t be disappointed.

Base stopped working but great customer service
Updating to a 5 because the company immediately reached out and offered a full refund. Great customer service! Overall I like this product but giving it a 3 since the base stopped working about two months ago when my daughter was 7 months old. It still works plugged in but it’s ridiculous that the base only lasted 7 months, since that was a main reason I bought this product.

Best Gadget for our Kiddos!
If you’re on the fence about a Hatch+, do yourself a favor and either purchase it or place it on your registry. We did the latter, and received it at our first child’s baby shower and it has been used literally every night since! The best feature it provides is the ability to control and monitor from the Hatch App. You can totally customize the color and sound level on the device straight from your phone, set favorites for your kiddos favorite settings, and more! It doesn’t need to be plugged in to run, so you can also use in the car if your kiddos need a good ole fashioned car nap! This device also travels incredibly well. We take it on every vacation or weekend trip. My only gripe with the product is that when you’re staying in a hotel, it has trouble recognizing the majority of hotel WiFi networks due to their authentication systems they use. However, if you use your favorites wisely on the device, you should be able to manually select them after setup.

Great idea, terrible execution
The idea behind this is great, but the actual product is pretty terrible. There is very limited functionality via the hardware controls; the app is required to operate the unit. I get that they wanted to keep the hardware clean, but it's not great to have to pull out my phone all the time during bedtime. It still wouldn't be so bad, except the app is full of bugs; it barely works. They push updates with new graphics and cosmetic/navigation changes, but the app continues to fail to function on the most basic levels. It doesn't show anything playing, even though something is. Or it says something is playing, but when you click on it the info is just blank. It notifies my phone that the battery is dead and the unit must be plugged in while it's sitting on the charger at 100%. There is an extreme delay between actions in the app being received by the unit, but the app also shows what the unit reports. This creates a feedback loop that makes changing the volume or brightness from the app infuriating, since if you change it too fast the unit can't keep up, and then the app will revert back to what the unit reports, making the setting jerk back and forth and take forever to get right. The custom content is actually very good and is the only reason I continue to use the product. However even that has issues. The content volume is not normalized at all, not across channels but also not even within the same content channel. One story is blaring loud at volume 30, the next can't be heard at all unless the volume is at 80. The system is designed to be used at sleep time, so obviously volume is critical. It would seem surprising that this was overlooked, except that is the MO for this product. They have a very narrow use case based around schedules and favorites that works okay. Try to do anything more complicated and you're probably out of luck. For example, if your child is old enough to talk, they are not going to be okay with just any story; they are going to ask for their favorite story. And even such a simple action as choosing a specific story to play is infuriatingly complex and often just doesn't work at all. Just tonight I had to tell my child I couldn't play the story they wanted because the app wasn't working, and that is a common event. Changing the story even in the same content channel makes the system no longer recognize that a favorite is playing, so subsequent actions like Sleep are not triggered properly. However, changing the story doesn't reset the internal timers, which means if you do change it sometimes the Rest will just shut off in the middle of the story, because the originally selected story's time was up. This probably seems like a lot but trust me I could go on. I'm a software engineer and I don't use a lot of products that require apps, for exactly this reason. Too many companies like this one design hardware that require an app and then treat the app functionality as an afterthought. Update 8/16/24: Downgraded to 1 star. Since my initial review the company has pushed 2 different updates about 6 months apart, each of which completely changed the way the app works with no option to maintain the previous functionality. This means that twice in the last 6 months I have had to redesign my child's sleep routine because the routine we had is literally no longer possible in the app. Each time I reached out to support, only to be told that the changes were made due to feedback they received. Given that a major selling point of the entire product is the ability to provide consistency and routine to your child's sleep, the company has shown an infuriating tendency toward knee-jerk, poorly considered changes and a shocking willingness to completely disrupt their customer's lives and ignore their basic promise of continuity. I am not opposed to progress and no features, but removing existing functionality should only be done when necessary and with extreme care. In both of these cases Hatch could have introduced the new functionality as an option - even the default option - while still maintaining the option of the existing behavior.

Worth the Price
I love the Hatch! I looked at several different white noise machines before selecting this one. I love it! I have not gone for the Hatch+ subscription yet, so everything I have done comes with the Hatch at cost. First, it sits on a charging base all day! I keep it in the living room where I sped my day time hours. At night I can put it near the bassinet without concern, there is no cord! If he falls asleep in his swing I can put it next to the swing. The sounds are better than the swing’s music. Secondly, it has a ton of different sounds and colors. You can use the app to set programs up to set the sounds to lights. You can set timers and link different programs. There is more you can do, I’m still exploring! Third, there is a clock display! Super helpful for quick reference! The battery holds a charge for eight to ten hours, depending on how much you use it. It sends an alert through the app when it needs to be charged- I appreciate the reminder! I was concerned with a review that said it would not link with the WiFi. Mine did this at first, but it ended up needing an update, once that was done it worked like a charm. I really like that I can take this room to room without plugging and unplugging it, super convenient. I also like that this can grow with my son. I think it was a good investment for the cost.

Short battery life
Battery will die by morning if not on the charger all night. Loses internet connection twice a week. My toddler likes to grab it off the base and put it in his bed for sleep. When he does that it’s dead by morning and his “ok to wake” color/light never comes on. A battery lasting less than 10 hours is disappointing on a product this expensive. *EDIT TO ADD* Support was easy to text with and get resolution.

Saved us during a power outage
Quick version: I was going to give this a four star review, but our power went out last night for 6.5 hours and the hatch saved us from having a cranky and unrested baby. Which is worth SO much more than any of the negatives. Negative -not as loud as previous model -reactivity to touch not as good as previous model Positive -portable -long life backup battery Long version: We have the Hatch Rest and this version. The main reason I was knocking off a star was because this generation is not as loud as the Hatch Rest and the reactivity takes a few seconds in between switching the sound manually. That is all being compared to the previous model WITHOUT any kind of portable or backup battery option. This one can literally be picked up and moved at anytime and has a long backup battery! It doesn’t skip or anything when popped off the base or disconnect from power. Great for baby wearing and long car rides. I’m not sure if there is any other app based sound machine on the market that is loud and has a long battery life. Our power was off for 6.5 hours and the hatch was on 70% volume the whole time and with no light. We had no problem with getting it set up on the internet. We just had to get close to the router, but that’s pretty standard for any WiFi capable product. After you do it once, you don’t have to do it again, unless you connect it to a different wifi. We didn’t have the Hatch with the baby monitor like a lot of the reviews have mentioned. But we use an actual baby monitor with a camera, so we didn’t miss that feature.

Finally got my toddler sleeping through the night"
My 2-year-old was up every couple hours, wide awake and crying, turning nights into a battle. Grabbed this sound machine after friends raved about it for toddlers. Setup was a breeze via app, and the white noise ocean sounds kicked in soft and steady. First night, she conked out faster and slept 8 hours straight. No more 3 a.m. wake-ups. The dimmable night light glows just enough for peeks without startling her, and the time-to-rise feature lets her know when it's okay to get up. Been using it for two weeks, and our whole family is sleeping better. Easy controls, portable for naps, total lifesaver.

YES. BUY IT.
We had 2 separate machines for noise and light before getting the Hatch+. While it may be a little more cumbersome to change the settings through the app, the scheduling function works very well and has been hands off since the day I set it. You don't have the sign up for the premium. Everything you need is already free. Oh, the free story was terrible. "Nightime at the Zoo" is just a collection of un-funny puns read by an old man some aspiring comedian couldn't find work and got hired to be a VO artist. Make the ONE FREE THING good and people will want more.

Honestly works great! So many features!
We bought the hatch machine for my son when he was a newborn and absolutely loved it hes 4 and still uses it! With our second child we decided to buy this Hatch machine and it works great I was kind of skeptical because of the reviews but we decided to try it! I've only had it turn off once randomly but other then that it's been fine! We've had it for almost 3 months now! Love that it comes with a back up battery so that it can work even when you have a power outage definitely worth the buy no complaints here :)
