This set comes with lots of wood pieces and things to make. It does not come with a complete set of tools.I bought a set of tools in a child's size. These were real tools, but on a smaller scale for kids about 6 to 10 years old.If the child really wants to use tools, then a tool set is a better choice than this set. If the child will be using the set without much adult help, then this set would be easier for the child to use. Hope this helps.

Q: Why should I pay $73 here when it's $35 on Lakeshore's website?

This kit is currently on Amazon for $89.99 + $13.29 shipping, no Prime. I actually took your advice and went to the Lakeshore website. I got two Kits, the Young Woodworker’s Project Kit, AA347 and Build-It-Yourself Woodworking Kit, HH866, for $87.99 DELIVERED to Alaska. Of course I did get a coupon code for Lakeshore for a BOGO 1/2 off which was a savings of $20. I love Amazon but it's not always cheaper. It pays to shop around.

It is all real - my 5 year old grandson along with his father, had a great time building the wood train, plane, and bird feeder!
