Great product! Easy to Use!
Of course to use the QNAP TS-473A fully, one needs to upgrade it More RAM and a graphics card for virtualization and transcoding are pretty much required for anything beyond using this for a simple NAS The 2.5GBe should give me great speeds to use network files that are reasonably close to an external HDD I can always add another 2.5GBe to my computer and trunk (combine) them for up to 5GBe No room left for 10GBe after the graphics card upgrade So that's stinks I had a QNAP and left for a while But it's just so easy for an intermediate user who understands some basic linux file permissions and management

This NAS Rocks!!!
Love being able to utilize ZFS, so glad QNAP supports this great file system. I could not be happier with this purchase. I ran a Drobo 5N for over a decade (it still works) and it served it's purpose with no problems but compared to QNAP's interface, Drobo is a Toy, even though I liked Drobo's compact design, running your HDDs like Network Blades (Vertically) is a much better design to manage Heat...IMO QNAP is by far the Best NAS out there...sorry Synology... Don't let the fact that QNAP is more Technical than other NAS units, it was very easy to setup and management is a breeze. My M.2s idle at 29c average and the HDDs around the same, the M.2s never gets above 33c and HDDs 38c is the highest I have ever seen them run. The unit runs quiet, it is a well designed case... I Highly Recommend this NAS or any QNAP NAS that runs QuTS Hero O/S (ZFS)

Another good NAS from QNAP...
I have a QNAP TS-453 Pro four-bay NAS and I was constantly running out of space. I originally had four 2TB drives configured in a RAID 5 which gave me 5.4 TB net space. That quickly ran out of space. I replaced the drives with four 4TB drives that gave me 10.5TB space. A year later, I replaced them with four 6TB which gave me 16TB space. Buying four new drives simultaneously gets dang expensive (in a RAID array, all the drives must be the same capacity as the RAID will resize itself to the small drive (if you have one 2TB drives and three 4TB drives, RAID will see all the drives as 2TB). So I opted for the new QNAP TS-673A six-bay drive. The problem is that a four-bay NAS wipes out 25% for the RAID CRC backup (it needs one drive). Since the TS-673A has six bays, you actually have five drives for storage, using only 17% for CRC backup. Using the same 6TB drives, I can increase capacity from 16TB to 27TB net space by adding two more drives. So a six-bay NAS is a lot more cost effective. Sure, you can opt for an eight-bay NAS but then you run into increased noise and vibration issues as well as higher temps. Add the fact that eight-bay NAS are recommended to be used in a RAID 6 config, it requires two drives for CRC backup. According to QNAP, you can just take the drives out of the old NAS and insert them (in the correct order) into the new NAS. You do not have to backup everything, configure the new NAS and restore the data. That works but there are some caveats. Primarily, the firmware on the old NAS must be current or you will run into issues. Also, some licenses (e.g. Twonky) will NOT transfer to the new NAS. Now for the NAS itself. The TS-673A has the new AMD Ryzen V1500B 2.2 GHz quad-core eight-thread CPU. This CPU is supposed to be 300% faster than the Intel Celeron J1900 and a bit faster than the AMD RX-421ND 2.1~3.4 GHz quad-core four-thread CPU. One notable advantage the newer CPU has is it uses over 50% less power when idling. My older TS-453 Pro would occasionally but rarely bog down a bit when running multiple streams or when streaming a high bit-rate video. I still need to see if the faster CPU helps with this. QNAP seems to be getting flimsier every time a new generation comes out and this one is no exception. The drive bays are tool-less, you do not need screws to hold the hard drives in place. But the trays locking mechanism and front cover seems awfully cheap. Thankfully, you will not be replacing drives that often. I miss the LED display that the older QNAPs had, you can always see the current status. The LEDs now used are not that useful. You now get two 2.5GbE ports instead of the normal four 1Gb ports. The big question is how many consumer routers support it? Adding an additional drive to the array seems far clumsier than before. The biggest drawback with the new TS-673A is the price... $900 is an awful lot for a six-bay NAS, admittedly, the comparable Synology DS1621+ is only $100 cheaper. The purchase is done and I spent several hours migrating everything. Let's see if it was worth it... Update: loading the NAS with five 6TB drives takes a long time to inititialize. The NAS took about 36 hours before it completed the task. While you can add data to the NAS during initialization, the response time is extremely painful as it takes a while for the NAS to respond. Once the initialization is completed, the NAS really picks up speed. It is a bit more snappy than my TS-453 Pro, streaming videos is a lot smoother. So far, I have not experienced any hesitancy when fast forwarding or chapter skipping like my older NAS. While this was not happening that often (99.9% of the time i had no issues) on my older NAS, the files (these were files with high bit-rates and were quite large) that I had issues with are no longer giving me trouble. Be aware that you should first set the date/time clock on the NAS before anything else. My new Twonky license got deactivated when i corrected the system time later. I have to contact QNAP to correct this issue. Note that you have to buy the Twonky license from QNAP, if you buy the license from Twonky direct, the add-on will not activate at all. Update 2: QNAP fixed my DLNA issue. It was a configuration problem on the NAS. Regarding the Twonky not running, it is a bug in the firmware that should be fixed on the next release. Update 3: QNAP was able to resolve all my problems with their latest firmware update. Twonky now works, the NAS was reporting different MAC addresses that caused the issue.

Good for video editing locally
Once this is program and you add some extra parts, not included. It’s definitely a beast. Is it good for offsite editing? I’m still struggling with that but on site on the local lan it’s fast. If you were on the same network and you add a 10 gig port. It’s day and night.! it’s fast quick. And serve so many uses. I really didn’t think I needed it until I had it. Now I can live without it. To not have to worry about space for a long is an amazing feeling.

A year and a half later - for unknown reasons - its RMA Time!
During the worse possible time, as these things happen, I start hearing a beeping noise from my server closet. All my NAS based services are now offline. That cannot be good! While this unit is used in a home office, it is temperature controlled, with a battery back up, on a dedicated breaker and its only used lightly so I'm not sure why it decided to give up. There was no leading indicators or warnings to get to this point. This was not progressive. This system just decided in a moment it was done. The previous Zyxel branded NAS I replaced with this one is still running at a friends house after 8+ years. Symptoms: 1. You get a single loud pitched beep, followed a few seconds later by a short low pitched beep (which is its POST success) [Status light is red and blinking] 2. Several seconds later, you get another high pitched beep. [Status light goes green!] 3. Shortly after, system seems to be online and gets an IP I can find in GFinder. 4. Status light starts blinking red and green, followed by a high pitched beep, which repeats every 5 seconds or so. 5. Ping goes down. System cannot be found on QFinder. 6. You hear a high pitched beep, followed by the low pitched beep (Post complete). This repeats. Doing the basic troubleshooting did nothing (Removed all disk drives including NVMEs, replaced system ram back to original system ram.) When I reached out to support, 5 days later we are at RMA. The reason for the two stars: Pros: When it works, it generally works pretty well. The control interface feels under powered. I would not host any pods or VMS on this unit, but for NAS operations to a linux VM - its great! Cons: When it died, pop! It's gone. Support is GMT +8, and their responses are usually one question at a time. I'm EST, so we are on opposite sides of the clock. Even waiting up late at night, You will one get one question, one step, one sentence, and need to wait another 24-48 hours. I dont think Ill ever get another QNAP as their support is really, really slow. Update: Going on three weeks with a unit outage. It was 70$ to return the unit for RMA. Apparently they do not have the parts in stock and I have to wait for the parts to ship from where ever. If you have to have a NAS or SAN that is business critical, this is not it. Even as a hobbyist or small business, the support is just not where it needs to be. Buy another brand, or build your own. Im already looking at if I can re-mount the ZFS pool on my own equipment and just keep moving.

Capacidad y rapidez

Hassle free installation and running without issue
I maxed out the memory, installed two NVMe drives and 6 hard drives and an Nvidia GT1030 with no hassles and was up and running pretty quickly. This was my second QNAP NAS and the first ran so well for years that QNAP was an easy choice when I wanted to expand from a 2-drive to a 5 or six drive.

so far so good
This unit replace my dead TVS-672X who die after connecting a faulty USB device in the front usb port. The sensitive chipset problem is a widespread problem with x72 model. Hopefully, this AMD base motherboard will last more than 2 years. At least, it come with a basic 3 years waranty.
