Is the rubber actually soft?

it is not to soft or too hard. It works well for stool on trailer floor which is coin rubber. with brake on the stool does not move. works well.

Will these fit on the end of a 2 X 4?

Yes and No. Standard 2x4 Lumber; Actual size is 3.5" x 1.5". Specs for this caster indicate "Fixing Top Plate Size: 2.73" x 1.95" inch. So It will fit on the larger side, but not on the ends or smaller side.

Are all 4 without brakes? titles states, "4x heavy duty castor wheels without brakes" but the description says differently.

Two castors came with brakes in my order, and two without…Excellent product, I got em on my weld table…
