When Bitter Apple doesn't work on a dog, here's the product that does.
Bitter Apple has been my go-to product to keep my dogs from chewing for years. But my youngest dog (2 y/o Basenji) got past the taste of Bitter Apple after a while and was chewing on furniture. When I use this stuff, he has NO INTEREST in chewing on the furniture. Totally effective. Two notes: 1. Unlike Bitter Apple, which has no taste or scent to humans, you can smell and taste this when you spray it. Kind of a bummer. Last time I used it I took a sip of wine a few minutes later and the wine tasted like bitter lemons. 2. If you have a really tenacious dog, like I do, you have to reapply. It seems to wear off after two or three days, and I'll catch my dog chewing the cushions again. My goal is to use this regularly, for long enough, that it becomes a training tool...then hopefully the rotten dog (not really) will stop chewing the furniture altogether. (He's a sweet thing, really.)

Did not work and made me physically ill
This product does not work to deter my cat from our plants. I liberally sprayed my new plants down with this stuff(as per the directions), to the point where it was dripping off the plant. My cat? She went right up and started chewing. I let her, because I had read some reviews that said that they stop at one bite. She didn't. She kept chewing. To add injury to insult, the mist from the spray made it impossible to breathe comfortably in my small apartment, and after breathing in the fumes from this product for fifteen minutes it made me violently ill to the point of vomiting and being bed ridden for hours. I have no idea what is in this product that made me so ill, but it is the only change I introduced to the apartment, and I cook my own food (which is vegan to boot) so it's extremely unlikely that I gave myself food poisoning. It could be that I have a certain allergy that I'm not aware of; this product is probably safe for most people, however I would urge that you test your reaction to it before spraying it anywhere, and that you keep the area you are spraying it very well ventilated. I would go so far as to encourage a face mask, as this stuff is extremely irritating to the mouth and throat. But again, this product did not seem to deter my cat at all; I could just have an extremely odd cat. Lol. JUST BE CAUTIOUS WITH THIS PRODUCT!

Didn't work for me but worked for coworker
So before spraying this all over my baseboards and wires I did a taste test (really wish I hadn't) it tastes like finger nail polish remover! Which I thought was great to keep my rabbit from chewing on things. Unfortunately I think my rabbit is broken, he likes the taste. So now he licks everything! Gave the bottle to a co-worker for her wire chewing cat and she says it works like a charm! So as long as your animal child isnt a weirdo like mine there should be no way this product doesn't work for you.

Good natural alternative. Had a 50/50 success rate.
PROS - easy to apply, didn't leave behind a fully residue. It has a pleasant smell. I had great success on one of the kids. CONS - bottled didn't last very long. Didn't work on all of the kids. Had about a 50/50 success rate. If you're looking for a natural alternative 2 nuclear waste then this could be a good choice for you. It's impossible to tell how everyone will react but I had about 50 50 success rate which is about the same I got when I used the other brands jet fuel. No More Salad Bar!
I bought this because my cats started treating my plants like a salad bar. Two easy spritzes over the crown of each plant and the cats don’t want anything to do with anymore. It’s too soon to determine how long it will last. As for the scent, it smells fresh and zesty. And no messy residue to speak of. Worth every penny for the peace of mind.

Completely ineffective in changing the behavior of a 9-month French Bulldog
We bought THREE different "chew stop" products including this one and two others. None of them had any noticeable effect except to lighten our wallets. We did make the mistake of getting some overspray on our kitchen counter top that found it's way onto some gummy bears that flopped out of the bag... My wife wasn't at all happy about that! I wish at least one had worked to some degree, then I could have determined how often it needed to be re-applied to remain effective. As for deterring our 9 month frenchie... no dice. If it had worked, the Bitter Cherry (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2BSZZY) was the least expensive of all the items we tried. The other products were: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I2A6MPG (this one Bitter lemon because we have observed our French Bulldog to avoid biting lemons that fall from our tree) - no help. And https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0841LVD57 - Bitter Apple spray. We didn't really expect this to work because Zeus has been munching on green apples that fall from our neighbors apple trees for quite a long time. In short: it will likely repel humans adequately, but like many other reviews have noted, doesn't seem to help much / at all with dogs. HOW WE TESTED IT: Zeus, our Frenchie, discovered that while he could not rip apart the top surfaces of his dog bed, he COULD flip it over and shred the bottom fabric. So, I sprayed copious amounts of each of these substances on each of three corners of the bottom of the bed... and even on one of the top surfaces where he "suckles" to soothe himself. There was absolutely no change in behavior. I even repeated the application of all three areas with the same products to the point where all were quite damp. No change. Zeus didn't even seem phased and attacked each of the corners with his usual abandon. I also tried spraying each of the three products on rags to the point where half the rag was quite damp... Zeus cheerfully chewed and tugged on the damp part of each rag. I saw no change in behavior at all... except for me... I touched my mouth with a finger that had touched the bitter lemon and ... well YUCK - it was like chewing on aspirin. Finally I tried spraying corners of the amazon box these 3 products came in. Zeus loves to shred boxes. The spray(s) might as well be liver pate... no behavior changes at all despite licking, and biting of the various treated surfaces. In short, none of the sprays worked in any discernable way at all. I'm going to try my experiments again, but I don't expect any difference. On the plus side, only the bitter Lemon smelled unpleasant - and only mildly so due to its "chemical" aroma. The others were pleasant smelling and I saw no change to the surfaces they were sprayed on. It seems our best approach to curtailing the chewing is to be diligent watching, chastening bad behavior and rewarding good behavior. Besides, there is just not enough of any of these products to prevent Zeus from wanting to munch on any shoes or socks he finds!

I got this to try and save some soft furnishings and plants from destruction - my cat shows no signs of even noticing the spray scent, even when it’s freshly been applied. One of the unlucky ones!

I bought this product in spite of how expensive it was because it is an all natural product and it was recommended on a veterinarian website. My 12 y.o. Goldendoodle has allergies to grass in the spring and fall which irritate his paws in spite of us wiping them. He loved licking the product off of his paws. This product did not work at all on our dog. For this reason and the cost, I do not recommend it.

Works a treat! I have sprayed this on all our electrical appliance cords & the chewing stopped immediately. We have put this on shoes (a puppy favorite!) couches and the chewing stops immediately. Also - a useful tip: If accidentally get any of this in your mouth (easy to do when you have sprayed the cushions on the couch) & can't get rid of the bitter taste - rinse your mouth with an alcohol containing mouthwash, this seems to be the only thing that gets rid f the taste quickly.
