It's a bit of a learning curve - but once you have it? Great coffee maker!UPDATE!!!!!
I waited to give my review because I really wanted to know I had used it fully and could answer honestly. It's a smaller footprint than my old Hamilton Beach Flex Brew and makes better coffee. TIP: If you like your coffee even stronger than the strong brew button makes? Use a Columbian blend or dark roast blend. Fill the grounds basket for a 10 cup pot but fill reservoir to only make 8 cups/strong. That will give you that stout cup of Joe. I love the steel carafe that keeps it drinkably warm without getting that burnt stale taste from sitting on burner plate all morning. TIP: To make your carafe keep warmer do as you do with all thermos/ carafes - the night before? Or a couple of hours before? Fill with your hottest tap water and close. It will - the thermal and your coffee will stay hot all day! Empty it out just before you make your coffee. If you are using the single k-cup style? Use the strong setting or the coffee will be weak. These are all the pros. The only con is the water filter in the reservoir... most of us already have water filters (either on our cold water from our refrigerators or from our taps) However..twice filtered water is not really that. bad now is it? All in all ? I LOVE this coffee maker and feel it makes great coffee and offers flexibility and is therefore a great buy. Had to come here and update my review - here I am a more 7 months from purchase and the coffee maker leaks water all over the counter and the carafe leaks and does not keep coffee warm. VERY DISAPPOINTING.CAN NO LONGER RECOMMEND. UPDATE: Contacted Mr.Coffee ..corresponded with a very nice and concerned customer service rep named Rhegie , who listened to my grievances and made it right. So A + Customer service and I really loved this coffee brew system when it worked right have me changing my review back to 5 star.

Didn't Last A Month
First, the good. 1. It's easy to program. 2. I love the carafe. 3. It saves space and looks nice on my counter top. Now, the bad. 1. The coffee tastes bad compared to my old Keurig, but I learned to live with it by adding more coffee. 2. The K-cup part is a big pain to use. If you CAN get it to work properly, the coffee/tea/hot chocolate/whatever tastes watered down and has no flavor. 3. Yesterday - the day before I submitted a return/refund request for the coffee maker - it stopped brewing after only about 2 cups. I cleaned it, ran clear water and vinegar through it, but it still took 3 tries (and a lot of wasted coffee) for me to get a full, 10-cup pot of coffee. Even then, it was super weak. 4. Today - the day I submitted the return/refund request - it started pouring water all over the place during the brewing process. This wasn't a simple leak. It POURED all over my counter top and would've ended up all over my floor had I not been standing there watching it. By the time I got it cleaned up, there was nothing in the carafe but lukewarm brown water. I won't even call it weak coffee because it was simply what I stated - lukewarm brown water. 5. If the manufacturer has to add instructions on what to do with regard to certain situations (re: water leaking and/or โadd waterโ notifications when it has water, I think? I didnโt get any instructions), thereโs probably a defect. Iโm basing this last one on reviews Iโve read today. The only good thing about all this is that if it was going to screw up, it happened before the return window disappeared, but barely. Had I waited even 24 hours I would've been stuck with a useless coffee maker I spent $100-plus on. So, now I'm stuck waiting on UPS to pick it up, then I'll be waiting for the refund from Amazon before I can purchase a new one - NOT like this one. I'm a big coffee drinker so it looks like I'll be digging out my old stovetop percolator until this is straightened out and I can (most likely) just go ahead and buy another Keurig Duo. I don't recommend this to anybody. There are too many reviews mentioning how it leaks - reviews I wish I would have paid more attention to before ordering it. Don't waste your money. Seriously. When I buy something, I expect it to last longer than 3 to 4 weeks.

Love this coffee maker!
I read all the recent reviews and was a little hesitant to reorder the same model from Mr. Coffee but I did. I replaced the same model of coffee maker that I had purchased 6 years ago. I make coffee at least once a day so that is a lot of usage over the 6 years. It started to leak water and also stop in the middle of brewing saying to add water. I have had this one for almost a month and so far, absolutely no issue. It is a space saver on the counter, the slot for coffee is front loaded so I don't have to pull it away from the cabinet to be able to lift the lid to load the coffee. Admittedly I do not use the single serve option. The carafe keeps the coffee very hot and it doesn't have that burnt taste from when you have a glass pot on the hotplate. If this lasts as long as the last one did I'll purchase it again!

Does the job with a few minor inconveniences
Update 11/28/21. My brew stopped working. Pree brew. Nada. Tried all recommended troubleshooting tips. Then I took the filter insert out of water reservoir and cleaned around the intake hole. Left the filter insert out completely and it worked again for about two weeks. Dead again and NO RESPONSE from manufacturer regarding the warrantee. This coffee maker makes coffee which is exactly what I wanted it to do. You can make a full pot, partial pot or various size cups of coffee which is nice. What is somewhat inconvenient (not horrible, just worth a mention) is the lid to the water reservoir has to lift off completely and placed down whereas my previous maker just lifted and stayed connected till you filled the reservoir. You can also lift off the reservoir but it seems easier to me to just fill it using the pot. The coffee pot lid also has to come off to fill it rather than just pop up or to the side. I also find you get a better pour by removing it completely rather than wait for the sloooowwww pour to fill your cup. The thermal carafe is rather small, barely filling maybe 5 large mugs with a full 10 cups of water which is ok for day to day, but having company will require making several pots to serve more than a few guests. Overall, I am now used to doing these extra steps and it is a good basic coffee machine to simply make a pot or cup of coffee.

Good enough for sub $100 coffee maker
This coffee maker started off as a pain. Nowhere in the instructions or the troubleshooting does it say that the coffee maker need to be primed. It was a pain in the butt to force water in to the system to stop that annoying "add water" alarm. Once I got that finished which was accomplished by removing the filter, filling the water reservoir, and putting placing it on and off of the coffee maker repeatedly(probably 10-15 times), the coffee maker began to pump water. Mr Coffee that needs to be addressed and fixed. Lets get in to the actual coffee making process. as a coffee maker making pots of coffee this is one of the best. It's probably the closes to the coffee house style carafe brewers on the market for the price. It makes a good pot with no grounds in the carafe. The carafe it self in of great quality. It has good seals, and the double wall construction makes for a sturdy quality coffee pot. the push button makes for a drip free experience when pouring your cop of coffee. Now lets get to the pod. It foes the job but first thing in the morning it requires some fine motor skills to get the pod in the basket, and snap it close. and if you are not the first one to the coffee pot your going to have some burnt fingertips making your coffee. This is a much better coffee maker than it is a Keurig. Which you use more often should be the deciding factor to get this. To me the Pod part is a little gimmicky. I took a star away because of the priming factor and the flimsy wonky pod basket that looks like the retaining clip will brake any minute. My suggestion to Mr Coffee is to fix the the way the consumer uses the pod and you have yourself a solid machine. You will then have a solid machine that I would spend $120-150 for. For sub $100 coffee maker it's good enough though.

Update of review
The pod feature works fine, but if that's what you like most, buy a pod style coffee maker. If you want to make a carafe, don't buy this one. We had both a Mr. Coffee 5 cup machine and a 12 cup machine and they made better coffee than this one. This machine uses the same drip system for both, but it is geared to the pods. The water doesn't come out fast enough to wet the grounds enough to make a good cup of coffee. It comes out so slowly that it goes straight through the middle and the grounds don't get all that wet. It takes twice as much coffee as our old machines to get a decent tasting cup. There is no heating element and I thought with a metal carafe it would stay hot for the 2-4 hours it advertises, but the coffee is tepid after 30 minutes, even after warming the pot first with hot water. Very disappointed. We have had this for 6 weeks. Update: purchased this machine in July 2023 and it is now December 7 2024. I still recommend you purchase a POD machine if you use pods. We fixed the drip problem by using 2 filters to slow the drip. The coffee maker now starts to brew a pot and quits after brewing a half cup. We then have to start it again and it will do this up to 3 times before it actually makes a pot. we have to adjust the amount to brew by that time based on how much has already gone through. We regularly clean the machine and use Brita filtered water, so there is no scale. Our other Mr. Coffee machines lasted over 10 years each. I believe in trying to compete with another brand, this machine is not up to snuff when actually making coffee. It doesn't have staying power. We will go for another machine at this time since it is out of warranty. Mr. Coffee should stick to what it did best.

It's a great carafe and pod in one!
This item replaced a Better Homes & Garden (BHG) coffee maker w/built-in grinder (can use grounds), reusable filter, stainless carafe & hot plate (no pod adaptability). About $90 in 2013. I bought the Mr Coffee stainless steel carafe & pod model 1 month ago. BHG grinder went rather dull (~2019) so I already had a separate bean grinder โก Included a reusable pod filter, pod holder apparatus, water reservoir Charcoal cartridge Holder, 1 Charcoal cartridge $ separately purchased 1 gold, reusable basket filter (~max $12) $ will need to buy charcoal filters (monthly or bulk) โ Everything Dishwasher safe EXCEPT carafe & lid, charcoal holder, water reservoir; Top rack only wash Brew basket, pod holder apparatus Pros Excellent space saving design for a carafe and pod combo Easy to use and coffee is HOT! 5min full 10cup carafe brew, 7min for strong setting carafe Quick pod brew, even if on strong setting (mugs & 12oz travel) Low volume beep sound when complete Removable but easily reinsertable water reservoir (10 cup line, max is probably 12 cups for system cleaning) Easy change charcoal filter and monthly tab reminder No carafe heat plate but then no burned coffee taste; carafe temp holds a couple hrs Carafe lid has an easy press dispense button (can hold carafe 180ยฐ for complete empty, no spill) & easy 30ยฐ turn removal Brew Later = set time when to begin brewing Separate Strong brew option allows hot water to percolate the grounds for flavor and intensity Clean white LED display and reservoir light but not intense in the dark (less than newer fridge dispense light) Cons If you hate any listed pros No built-in grinder but those blades dull over time anyway Initial set-up took about 3 tries to trigger water in reservoir before self-cleaning could begin Notes: I have not had basket (12tbps) or pod (full) grounds spill over bc I click it securely in place UPDATE Jan2023: I'm still using this and LOVE it! Working the same as day one. Btw water reservoir filter only needs a change every 3 months. UPDATE 2025: If users are concerned over the odd noise it makes after brewing, it's from the steam released and is resolved after a little bit of time. But sadly RIP to this coffee maker because the white gasket in the bottom of the water tank (where the tank rests on the back of the maker) has broken and not replaceable (or is very difficult to remove for replacing).

Not a good investment
I'm updating my review based on experience with this coffee maker. I didn't mind so much putting up with some of the quirks mentioned in other reviews, but after two years of use, the coffee maker gave me a "hot water" error when I tried to brew and refused to continue the brewing process. I let it sit for a little while, then brewed with no water in the reservoir to try to clear out what was in the machine, and it worked. A couple weeks later, it started leaking during the brewing cycle every time I used it. I thought it might have some scale build-up, so I gave it another good cleaning. No luck. Now, I get the "hot water" error every time I try to brew. I really expected the coffee maker to last more than 2 years. Not a good investment. Original review: My experience with this coffee maker has been mostly positive. I find the coffee it makes flavorful and at least as good as that brewed by the more expensive coffee maker it replaced. My complaints are two. The carafe doesn't seem to be terribly well insulated. I make a large pot of coffee in the morning and drink it over the course of two or three hours. The coffee doesn't stay as hot as I would expect (or as hot as my previous coffee makers). My other complaint is mechanical. Occasionally, the coffee maker will only empty part of the water reservoir. (I just restart the brewing process, and the coffee maker brews with the rest of the water.) There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to this, and I've read online "solutions" to the problem. My experience is that it's a one-off issue. I don't do anything to the coffee maker, and the next pot brews without issue.

Doesn't Work
Does not work, at all. Right out of the box it says there's no water when the water is full. Returned it and that was pretty difficult! I had to pay to return their junk!!!
