Blimey, Iโm Knackered!: An American's Survival Guide to British English [Hall, Marshall, Cowie, Mark] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Blimey, Iโm Knackered!: An American's Survival Guide to British English Review: Terrific book. So many words that were frankly bewildering to me are wonderfully explained. - I wouldn't definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants to visit the area, or just want to better enjoy books or films. Review: If you read British murder mysteries, this will be a very helpful resource - I would have preferred this book to come with a dust cover. It didn't explain the difference between having a row and argy-bargy, but that is a niggling complaint. There are oodles of definitions, but few pronunciations. The contents are arranged by over all heading and alphabetically, which is very helpful. I can look up government, or food, or alphabetically for plimsolls. Certainly author Hall has done us "Yanks" a service by all this research. The definitions are quite clearly explained. This book is also useful for someone from the USA visiting England. If you know someone planning to visit there, this book would make a worthwhile gift. Recommended.

Translations for fans of British TV
My first copy arrived slightly damaged. I was pleased with how quickly and painlessly I got an undamaged copy in the mail. I have not had time to do a thorough review, but I can say I am impressed by the scope, organization, and tone of the book. In vain I sought one sample common word (I've forgotten which one, unfortunately). The author acknowledges that the book is incomplete in covering a constantly changing field. Perhaps there will be updates, with input from readers.

What did they say??
We watch a LOT of Brit Box and Acorn TV and there are so many terms and sayings that are puzzling in the shows. Having the book handy allows us to understand everything. It's more enjoyable that way. Worth having!

London lingo and more
This book was a gift to a granddaughter who is planning to live in London for two years. The book seemed perfect to help her bridge the language gap. It is humorous and informative. Lots of practical information.

HILARIOUS BOOK
This book on British slang is both hilarious & helpful - for anyone who's planning to travel to the United Kingdom. Lots of "turns of phrase" that you wouldn't have a clue what it meant without this guide.

A Fun Book to Have as Reference
We have watched an abundance of British crime shows and this book helps to understand the meaning behind some of the slang used. It has a permanent home on the coffee table for reference.
