Product description says i need 2" clearance behind the drawer. the actual product is 2.5" thick. should i order a different one?

Yes, when the outlet is mounted in a drawer, the space behind the drawer box needed is 2". You can see more detailed drawings of how this is done in the Spec Book, which is in this listing or can be found on our website. As an FYI - using the right installation technique that you can find in the Spec Book, Docking Drawer outlets can be installed into drawers with as little as 1.25" behind the drawer box.

Can this fit shelves that are only 3" deep?

Can you swap out the outlets?

Yes. It's one of the greatest features of the Docking Drawer outlet.

For example, if there's an outlet failure I can simply be replaced by removing the cover plate and taking you out without and replacing it with the UL-listed outlet but you can source from Docking Drawer, Amazon, or your local hardware supplier.

This feature also future proofs Docking Drawer outlets. If a new standard a better specification outlet is released, you can update your Docking Drawer Blade series outlet easily using a UL listed outlet again but you can switch from Docking Drawer, Amazon, or a local hardware supplier.

Question 4

What is the reason for a max drawer width?  I would like to install one or two of these into a 36" wide drawer.  Is that going to be possible?

YES - you can install 2 Docking Drawer outlets into a single drawer as long as the drawer is wide enough.

Here are a few tips -

The ideal drawer width for a double outlet installation is typically 30" wide or wider

The mounting location of the rear mounting bracket is important when installing 2 outlets in the same drawer. Spend extra time to make sure BOTH brackets are located in the right position.
