These other nutrients include fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. RDIs were developed to serve as a guide to determine optimal nutritional needs in order to prevent nutrient deficiencies. They are based on healthy adults who do not have illness, genetic weakness or environmental exposure. They should not be confused with an individual’s nutritional requirements, which differ from person to person.
