National Museum Viking Game

This is my second time gifting it to someone. It is a hit again and I purchased it although it has doubled in price. It's a truly quality game and seems to keep people interested in playing repeatedly. Great buy. Highly recommended for chess players and Viking lovers both.

The game pieces, or counters, have a smooth, hard, cool surface and are stone-like, having satisfying heft. They have minute detail, as if carved. None came broken or in any way deformed. And I think that the woven linen cloth is reminiscent of something that could have been transported w/ frequency, as one would expect from itinerant Medieval people, traders or warriors. And the directions of play for this game are the most complete and detailed that I've read yet, including those in the two common books on the subject. In every respect - counters, playing surface, and written directions - this is a high-quality product, and well worth the cost. I'm very satisfied w/ this, and pleasantly surprised: many of the reviews that I've read here are quite misleading and don't do justice to the maker.

It would be 5 stars, but one of the pieces came chipped. If I can get a new piece, it will be 5 stars. Updated: They replaced the broken pieces.

Wish it came with a nice sturdy gaming board instead of cloth.

The game is well made and sturdy. Will last for years of use.

I was very excited to receive this as a Christmas gift, but soon discovered that the pieces are cheaply made and very fragile. Five pieces were badly chipped right out of the packaging and required over an hour to piece back together. Definitely not the quality one would expect from a ~$50 game. On the plus side, the cloth board is very nice with sharp, clear printing - though it could use a bit more weight given the lightness of the pieces. Overall, I love the Isle of Lewis inspired design of this set, but I think I'll have replace it with a better made set before long.

This game is fantastic! I purchased this as a gift for my husband and he loves it! The pieces are well made and detailed. The cloth is beautiful and the print is clear and detailed in Nordic patterns. If you are a fan of strategy games (like chess or risk, etc) and love history, then this is a great addition to have! A set of basic instructions also come with this, as well as a nice sturdy box to keep the game stored in. Very pleased with this product! No problems whatsoever with shipping and handling!

Absolutely adore these pieces and the game is so fun. A very fun game to play that is just fascinating. The pieces are all individual and unique from each other with all the charming imperfections of something ancient and authentic. The size is ideal and it's really handy for rolling up, taking the pieces in a pouch to the pub and playing with a friend over some pints of ale. The game itself is really fun and interesting. The linen "board" (Mat) is really pretty and does the job. I bought these specifically just for the pieces as I could make a board if I want to out of wood however the roll up mat is very handy for taking to the pub etc. The price is great for the quality of the pieces and the rules are well written and even provides the reader with some good history on the game of Hnefatafl. 100% love this.

ein sehr interessantes Spiel, gut und edel verarbeitet, mit meine Sohn der 7 Jhare alt ist sehr gerne gespielt. Der Preis finde ich etwas zu hoch, die Figuren könnten für diesen Preis ruhig aus Holz und nicht aus Palstik (obwohl das Plastik ist qulitativ) sein. Trotzdem haben wir auf das Spiel gefreut

Favoloso gioco che arriva direttamente dal tempo delle invasioni vichinghe lungo le coste della Francia e dell’Inghilterra. Il set si presenta con un tappetino sottile dove posizionare le pedine che sono veramente ben fatte anche se un po’ piccole secondo il mio parere. Il gioco ha delle regole molto semplici ed è giocabile da persone di ogni età. La spedizione è arrivata esattamente il giorno dopo che l’ho ordinato, grazie sopratutto ad Amazon prime😉

The gameplay is great but I was disappointed with the quality of the pieces. A number of them have chipped even before the first time I played it.

After visiting the National Museum of Scotland, we decided to order this game. Being a chess enthusiast, I very much enjoy playing this game with my kids. The rules are very simple for children to grasp, and it's a great way to start playing strategy games, before tackling the more complicated standard chess. Winning with the black is always a challenge, and my kids almost always beat me! We also loved the high quality stylised materials.
