Does my car sirius subscription cover me on this device or do I need a separate subscription?

According to Sirius u need a separate subscription or they can transfer ur current subscription to the new radio. Hope this helps

I bought the home kit thinking i would be able to plug it in to my portable radio. i can't. is there any way i can trick it into broadcasting to fm?

The unit should be broadcasting on FM unless you plug in an audio cable, then it will disable the FM broadcast. Refer to the user manual, starting on page 19 for FM mode. You might need a audio 1/8 inch male to male cable to connect to your portable radio if not in FM broadcast mode.

I got this SiriusXM Onyx EZR radio so I could listen to my favorite music channels over my Bose Wave radio. Set up instructions were easy to follow. Selecting the right location for the antenna is the most important step. It wants you to put it in a South facing window with no blinds. As you can see from my pictures, that’s not necessary. Mine is pointing South and receiving a 95-100 % signal, (3) bars, through the wall. Once everything was connected I turned both the radio and Bose Wave on and verified I was receiving the SiriusXM radio advertisement channel. After that is when I contacted a rep via chat on their website and selected a plan. Since I already have an account associated with my car, it was very easy to get listening. This is a great radio receiver and I am amazed at how easy everything was. SiriusXM requires a paid subscription for those that might not be aware.
