I don't understand your question abt cartridges being regional. I live in the USA, and have never had a issue with my HP office jet Pro 8720 printer or in purchasing ink for it here in the USA. Sorry if this does not answer your question.

Can black/grey be printed when the color cartrige runs out.

No, the 8710 printer will not print black and white if any of the colors run out, even if you say ok to the setting allowing it. You can find that in the manual...... PITA.....

how many pages can I expect to get out of a 952 blk cartrige

952 yields about 1000 pages and 952XL yields about 2000 pages. If u can get a better deal, go with the XL.
