Comptia Network+ Certification All-In-One Exam Guide, 5th Edition (Exam N10-005) Review: TOP-NOTCH! - Network+ by Mike Meyers is right on the money. In my opinion, the 682-page book is well laid out, well written and covers all objectives necessary to pass the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Network+ exam. Be advised, however, that Network+ is crammed full of complex, mind-boggling information, so it's not an easy read. It covers everything from from the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) seven-layer model and the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) model, to network topology, all the way through each network objective and, finally, to building a functional SOHO layout and trouble-shooting a full-fledged network. It's all in the book. It's definitely not light reading and, of course, your success in understanding the material also depends on how much-hands on experience you have. The TIA recommends you have nine to twelve months of actual field experience. But experience isn't absolutely necessary. I have no network experience. Zero. But even so, I had no trouble following Mike's discussion of the subject matter, and I attribute that directly to Mike Meyer's straight foreword and well-organized writing style. He definitely knows how to put together a textbook. I do have one minor criticism. I didn't quite get Mike's explanation of classless CIDR subnetting. I read the section over and over, but it just wouldn't sink in. I got the concept, but the mechanics wouldn't work for me. I finally had to consult other sources. There are practice exams on the accompanying disk to test your progress. I found those useful. And, if that isn't enough, you can always read Mike's follow-up book, " Mike Meyers' CompTIA Network+ Certification Passport, 4th Edition (Exam N10-005) (CompTIA Authorized) " Since I'm a total beginner to networking, I bought both books from desertcart at the same time. I have read other books by Mike Meyers including CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, 8th Edition (Exams 220-801 & 220-802) , Mike Meyers' CompTIA A+ Certification Passport, Fourth Edition (Exams 220-701 & 220-702) and CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals All-in-One Exam Guide (Exam FC0-U41) They were all topnotch. I highly recommend this book to anyone studying for the Network+ exam. Review: Passed the Test!!!!! - I would highly recommend this as a study guide for the Net+ exam. I took my test today and passed with an 831. It is a hard test and this book helped a lot in preparing me for the test. This book covered the material quite well and was well written. One of the aspects that I really liked about this book is that it gave actual photos of live equipment. It helps to see the port configurations on the backs of switches and other larger equipment that I have not had the chance to get hands on. Another thing I like was that the CD in the back had some practice tests on it. This helped me see the areas I was weak in so that I could go back and review. It is also a good way to add tidbits of knowledge that you might not pick up in the text. I also used some other supplements to prepare for the test. I purchased Darrill Gibson's kindle practice test questions book. I would highly recommend that and any other practice tests you can get on the internet. Those will give you a good gauge of where you are and areas of weakness. I also watched the Professor Messer free videos and had purchased a voucher on Groupon for free access to the career academy videos for all of the ComptTIA exams for $99. I think it is best to use several sources for the test. The test is not easy for sure. Stay calm through the simulation questions and just flag them for review and move on if you feel you are getting behind. I was a little unsure on a couple of those so I just flagged them for review and worked through all of the other questions. When I got to the end I had about 20 minutes left to go back and work on the two simulations. That took the pressure off. Just stay calm and keep plugging along no matter how much pressure you feel. It is a great sense of accomplishment to pass these certs so just keep studying and don't get discouraged.

Excellent book and resource
I found this book to be very good, it is very detailed and goes beyond the Network+ certification in terms of the detail that is on offer, but Mike does say you can read the historic parts or skip to the test specific parts which he has marked clearly. Even so there is a massive amount of information to take in even if you have the A+ cert, sometimes it can seem overwhelming. But stick with it and you find yourself catching on to what Mike means and is explaining, even if you have to read over it several times. Subnetting is explained very well as is most of the book, but I found Mike would at certain points, go into very deep detail and go off point, or in some cases under explain somethings, or somethings could be perceived different ways because of lack of detail or don't confuse statements, its not a balanced book in terms of the way the information is given out, by comparison Darill Gibsons Security + book is a prime example of a balanced book and an easier read, that's not to say that the material is any easier in fact its harder in some ways, but because its written well it goes into your head quicker, not so much with Mikes book which can take a few reads to sink in. In saying all this, the only real problem with 5th edition is with the way it is written it needs to be better structured, as in stick with the point in hand, look at what's been said and try to look at possible ways a viewer may perceive what is been explained and make sure to explain why or why not for each scenario, this is done in the book, but not enough. The book does offer very deep information and although it may seem like overload, you can be sure by your second or third time you will fully understand it, and most importantly remember it. The presentation of the book is excellent with fully detailed pics and simplified pics for the correct subjects, also the opening chapter is worth a mention too, very well explained and good structure as is a few other chapters (structured well) The books accessibility varies form chapter to chapter, But I would recommend that people have the A+ certification because this book is no walk in the park by any means. Even with the star knocked of for the reasons above I would fully recommend this book to anyone who wants the Network+ certification, as you will not get a book that covers so much in such detail anywhere, and this is good because the more you have access to, the better. Overall its excellent training material and resource, If you can remember everything in this book you would be a networking genius, and you can with say.....3 reads, just don't expect to in the first :)

I bought this book for my son, who is studying at present. He informs me that it is extremely informative, and he has learned more from using this book, than four months of study without it. It appears easy to follow, precise and an excellent way of obtaining sufficient knowledge to undergo an exam. Thoroughly recommended!

This book is helping me on my Kanduit Networking course Level 3. The information is concise and clear with illustrations and photos. The only problem at moment is I can't download it to my Kindle only to my Kindle App on my tablet. So come on Amazon, make this book a Kindle download book not just for the app.
