it works fine
I have not used it on my hitch yet, but so far everything seems to be working just fine. When locked, it's pretty sturdy. The provided sheath/cover is flexible and strong, and should protect the lock from the elements for years. Love the convenience of not having to carry yet another key. Resetting the code might appear a little more complicated than it really is, but once you know how to do it, it's straightforward: Basically once unlocked and the bolt removed, you can twist open the lock mechanism; then remove all the lock rings (it's ok to just let them fall out). Then you'll need to line up the black dots on the core, then replace the rings per the code you have in mind, then put back the large locking nut. That's it. I cannot attest to its road worthiness, or its longevity, at this point but I'll soon need it on my new hitch carrier. I'll update if there is any new discovery.

Great Hitch Lock that helps avoid the need to carry another key
I was looking for a combination hitch lock and was lucky to come across this one. Happy to report that it works great! Biggest issue was measuring my old hitch pin and deciding between the 1/2" and the 5/8" lock. In my case my MDX had a 5/8" pin and this lock fit perfectly with no rattling that is common with under sized hitch pins. Default combo is 0-0-0-1. Once it is unlocked you simply twist the collar counter clockwise one position. You can then pull off each number wheel. To set your combo simply put each number wheel back with the digit you wanted instead of the 0-0-0-1 default. Once reassembled turn collar clockwise one click and verify your combo still works. I added the instructions into the product images in case you ever have to reset the combo again. If you forget your combo you might be screwed so be sure to make it match something you'll remember (car radio code, last 4 digits of your phone number, etc.). I greased my lock inside and outside to help prevent future corrosion. The lock comes with a cool black rubber jacket to keep the tumblers clean and dry, but the high pressure car wash places I goto usually manage to get water inside so I'm using it without it. This hitch receiver lock will prevent most folks from walking off with your ball hitch, fancy cap cover or in my case a tail and brake light to help avoid rear end collisions (Bully CR-007A Tail and Brake Light). You'll never have to look for the right key for your hitch lock again
Tired of all the keys on my chain and searching for the right key when securing my bike rack to the receiver I knew there had to be a better way... and this fit the bill perfectly! It was a snap to set the combination to the four digits I wanted and it takes less than a second to install it and slide the rubber cover over it while in use. Only a few seconds to open it as well. It's sturdy enough to hold a bike rack (or small trailer) in the receiver so that's all I expect. While I don't doubt someone who really wanted to break it could do so, it would be easier to cut the cable locking my bike to the rack. (But as rare as my bike is on the rack unattended, I'm not worried when I make a quick trip into the grocery store while parked in plain sight.) But most important to me is the convenience.

Seems to work and set up just fine.
I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the male pin as it goes into the combo piece seems kind of thin. But that may be just fine. Just not sure how much prying action it could take. Also, not sure it is made of the strongest metals it could or should be in the locking and combo area. Other then that, set up was easy. I used Green grease all over the inside. Should keep it water proof and lubricated for years. Good sized numbers. Easy to turn especially after greasing.

Easy peasy
Everything is great. Itโs easy to move the numbers, easy to set a combo and very secure. Perfect for my use as it keeps a hidden safe hitch insert with my key in it since my phone is the key. In case of emergency and I canโt get in with a dead phone or dead battery I can get to my key.

Substandard trimax lock
I like trimax products and they are some of my strongest and trusted locks for my trailers (I have three trailers). However, this hitch lock is not very strong. It will keep a honest thief from stealing your hitch or trailer but this lock is very easily defeat-able with a rock/hammer blow, small pliers, or tube as a lever to combination surface by someone that wants your stuff. It has very skinny lock rod and pins. They also rust easily and cover traps moisture rather then keeps it out. I own two of them and I like that I don't need another set of keys. They work fine to hold my $180 dollar hitches and pull 14k lbs. trailers. I would not use it to hold and secure my winch or other appealing items and I would not trust it in a very high crime area or extended stay in a unsecured location. Good luck.Cheers. UPDATE Feb 20,2013: More and more rust. Yes,I live in Washington. Yes, It is winter and they use corrosive deicer. Yes, I use rust inhibitors and I still get rust and it gets harder to remove. It really is a chincy lock so three stars now for it's ok...

Great pin, exactly what I was looking for. Now I can get rid of some keys.
I have a 2016 Ram 2500 HD Cummins. I use a GenY 303 Drop Hitch. This pin works in both the drop hitch and the receiving end of my truck with the adapter sleeve. I was weary about ordering this as most Heavy Duty trucks have a larger receiver that require and adapter sleeve to work with most hitches. My overall width is about 3.5 inches side to side on the outside of the drop hitch, and this pin fits just right with no slack, and with all four rings in place, which is how I like it. I ordered one just to make sure it would work before I ordered two more. Now that I have confirmed it works, I'm getting two more today. Combination is very easy to change and took less than 5 minutes to learn how to do it. I prefer using this pin over having three key locking pins, with three different keys.

This plus locking hitch pin = cheap hitch vault.
This thing works really well and is easy to set....but I didn't get it for the typical use. I wanted a way to store an extra set of keys outside my truck in the event that I lock myself out like an ass. I really liked the idea of the HitchSafe Key Vault , but for $70? You've got to be kidding me. I bought this along with a Curt Manufacturing 22750 Tube Cover 2" X 2" Black Bulk and made my own for less than 1/3 the cost. I simply put my key in a zip lock bag to keep it from rattling around and jammed it behind the hitch pin. I've now got a set up that's way easier to remove, is way more versatile, and way more discreet than an overpriced key holder.

Held up quite well!
The photos shown are after 1.5 years of usage. This lock has been on my hitch at all times and even through Canadian winters where my area uses salt on the roads. I'm very impressed with how minimal the rust is on the lock. I never had an issue with unlocking and removing it from the hitch. Lock is easy to set and the black cover is nice for that added protection from the elements. I added a touch of rust proof spray in the locking mechanism occasionally just to be safe.

As described!
Took a bit to figure out how to work the combo to your own number but works well. Nice fit and have no complaints. Like not having to worry about more keys.

Just received it in couple of days. Played with it and set up my pswd so easy. unit feels solid and heavy. Sweet that it came with a pocket to cover the keylock.

Must read - it is strong receiver lock
This is a very strong and reliable receiver lock. I'm using it on my uhaul installed hitch receiver. It is using password on the lock and I never need to worry about losing the keys! It comes with black rubber that could cover the lock completely. It will protect the lock from the damaged by water and rust.
