Devon Rex

I have a 3 year old Devon. He grew quite greasy and started losing fur over time. I brushed him, wiped him down with just water, but nothing was really working.Since I knew cats didn’t need to bathe and my previous Devon never had these issues— I left it alone. My previous vet didn’t seem concerned after running every test possible, all negative. So I decided to change vets. I was not satisfied with the answer that nothing was wrong. My Devon was so bald he was starting to look like a sphynx.Immediately, the new vet told me I needed to bathe my Devon and recommended this shampoo. It has been 3 weeks and his hair is growing back. His fur is so soft and pillowy and delicious. His bald skin is no longer sticky and accumulating everything from dirt to litter to massive amounts of oil. He seems to be on a good path now.I also wash his paws really well with this when I am giving him a bath. He had an issue with yeast overgrowth and it is also almost 100% gone.

Long time dog allergies mostly controlled

We have a 13 yr old Skye Terrier who has skin allergy issues. We've been dealing with the allergies for about 8 years. She started off biting her back feet on the tops of her toes. First she would bite the hair off. Then she began to bite so much she bled. We wrapped it with bandages, we tried socks, she is a genius when it comes to getting at her feet. The only thing that would stop her was the cone of shame (we have since upgraded to a ballon necktie/pillow she likes much better). In addition she started getting raised dry reddish bumps on her back, under her legs, and behind her ears that seem to itch but that she doesn't or can't bite. When brushing her she had a good amount of dander. She also (to me) has a distinct powdery smell, somewhat like yeast but not quite, when her symptoms start to get bad.We tried benadryl (decreased some redness but just didn't take care of the problem), we tried changing foods (sometimes this would help for a time then they just seemed to come back), we got steroid shots and antibiotics from the vet. Inevitably the rashes/biting kept coming back. This shampoo helps quite a bit along with the other methods I've listed and I continue to use it in our current routine (listed below). We water it down quite a bit to help it last longer and help it permeate her coat, probably at most 1 part shampoo to 3 parts water. We use a kitchen wash cloth to wet her fur and scrub her skin. Then use the cloth to work the shampoo into her fur, spending extra time on problem areas. Let it sit in her fur for 5-10 minutes dependent on how bad her symptoms are. Then using the wash cloth we scrub/rinse it off. We can see a noticeable decrease in bumps, redness, and dander after 1 wash and when she's having major flare ups we wash her every 3-4 days. After washing like this for 1-2 weeks we can typically regain some control of her symptoms. The vet finally put her on Apoquel during flare ups which was the only thing that made a difference. Eventually the vet was having her take it daily because of how often her symptoms would reappear. But due to my concerns about side effects of Apoquel, we now have her on as needed Apoquel (only for major outbreaks), more often benadryl if we notice symptoms, this shampoo weekly to biweekly dependent on symptoms, the balloon necktie/pillow as needed, and a special diet for her kidneys (that also restricts her diet well and we do not allow any poultry which we felt was a trigger for the symptoms). Now she does fairly well most of the time as long as we keep a schedule and the allergens aren't too high.

Medicated dog shampoo

My dog has skin allergies. This shampoo I use to get from Chewy. They haven’t had it for months. The dog has no itching and no red skin.

Keratolux Changes - So Close To Allermyl

Two issues: Seller shows/lists original KERATOLUX formulation, not the current one they're shipping, and expiration date is only 10 weeks away. With one medium dog at hand the bottle will be sitting around long after expiry. Disappointing. The original Keratolux formula had Pyrodoxine, Salicylic Acid and Zinc Gluconate (common "degreasers") as "active" ingredients. These are now "inactive" ingredients, way down the list, in much smaller amounts. Piroctone Olamine is the new (and only) active ingredient at .5% w/w. I'll note for Virbac loyalists that their ALLERMYL shampoo also has Piroctone Olamine at .5% w/w as the (only) active ingredient. Allermyl lacks the Pirodoxine/Salicylic Acid/Zinc found in Keratolux, but given the relatively small quantities of these three in the updated Keratolux , and the fact that remaining ingredients are identical in both shampoos, I wonder if Keratolux and Allermyl now produce nearly identical results. Allermyl has calming moisturizers not in Keratolux, so I'm thinking of trying alternating the two.
