Works great - read old hardrive and pulled files easily
I had an old 1999 Windows Home Toshiba laptop that booted up okay. I needed to pull off the 4GB hard-drive certain document files. My options were three: IOMEGA drives, 3 1/4 disks or dialup. The only internet connectivity was the very ancient AOL software. I no longer have IOMEGA hard-drives. It has been years since I used dial-up or had a land-line access. 3 1/4 disks were long gone. The final action was to operate on the laptop - removing the hard-drive. It had an IBM Travelstar DKLA-24320 hard-drive. I plugged the drive to the cable adaptor, and the rest was plug-n-play. The windows 11 laptop quickly opened the drive. I was able to pull off the document files and upload them to a Google drive. I opened files with ease.

Works as advertised
Reading the reviews, it seems there is some confusion regarding this adapter. For SATA or 3.5 IDE, this adapter handles the DATA portion of the equation. So you need to BRING YOUR OWN POWER (BYOP) in order to make it work! I my use case I wanted to add a regular SATA port internally to a machine which had no free slots (but did have an internal USB). This adapter works as described and Windows / Linux picked it up without issue. I have it hooked up to a SATA optical DVD drive using a regular SATA cable (not supplied). The power needed for the drive is provided via a SATA power splitter (also not supplied). Mechanically, this is similar to another brand of adapter that I use a lot. That one is much more expensive since it comes with a power pack. If you independently add the power needed for your SATA or 3.5 IDE device this product will work. Also, the interface is not USB-3. This is fine for my use case, since the optical drive is speed limited anyways.

Inexpensive, simple solution to reading a PATA drive...
There's a SATA leg on this, but you'd need to power it separately and there's other, better answers for SATA drives. Got a Parallel ATA (PATA...) drive? This is one of the ONLY ways you're going to read the contents of that class of drive off of the drive and onto another machine. I misplaced my original one of these and had to order another. Quality got three stars because there's a lack of any heft to the device (It's light, light, light...)- but it worked well enough to do the job I needed of it. Overall got four stars for the materials choices, which is probably a portion of why it's so inexpensive. It is what it is.

Works great!
If you have an ide notebook drive to plug into you don’t need any external power, anything else you will need a power source for the drives. The interface worked great for my needs and I tested it for all of the inputs that it accepts and it passed with flying colors.

I disliked it did not come with all that's needed.... The description is not accurate

Finally able to get the data off an old hard drive
I've had a hard drive sitting around forever meaning to get the data off it. This device made it super easy, just plug-n-play. Only drawback is it doesn't power the hard drive. You'll need another 5V source.

NO POWER FOR IDE PATA DRIVE
Price was ok....but i bought this specifically to copy old IDE PATA Drives but there was no mention of needing power cable and supply to be able to copy these drives. So do not recommend this one.

Worked great to Unlock Original Xbox HDD
Worked great for what I needed it to do, which was to unlock my original Xbox hard drive. Also rebuild the file system on drive. Make sure to connect your own molex power as this cable only provides data. Use FatxplorerBeta64 to unlock drive. Then Run XboxHDM2.3IDE+USB. Place EPROM file in same folder. Type xboxhd. Enter. Rebuild hard drive. Back to FatxplorerBeta64 and lock drive or else it will not work in Xbox.

Didn’t work with my old Mac drive — description was a bit unclear
I bought it to read the hard drive from my old Mac, but unfortunately it didn’t work. I’m not sure if the drive needed extra power like some older models, or if the cable just didn’t work. The product description felt a bit confusing, so I wasn’t sure if I had everything I needed or if I misunderstood something. It might work well for other devices, but in my case, it didn’t help.

Good Product
I needed this unit to try and save an external hard drive that quit working. Once I got the hard drive out of the casing and plugged it into the unit it immediately came to life and I was able to rescue the files I wanted. Highly recommend for anyone like me who is not computer savvy.
