how long are the bars?

There must be two slightly different products sold as these monkey bars. The ones I got are green, 21-1/2'' long, with distance between screw holes (the holes are round) of 20-5/8''. Do not build play structure until you get the bars!

does this have to be mounted to something else

yes it is only the bars, just mounts onto lumber.

how many bars are in the set ?

There were 6 monkey bars. So, we bought two sets for our monkey bars in the basement.

Are these the same bars that come with the playsets? In other words, are they the same size as the bars that come with the playsets?

Yes, they are normal size monkey bars. We ordered two sets and used one set as steps once we build the Monkey Bars. The picture is a little misleading since it shows the entire Monkey Bar set
