Can anyone comment on how this knife transitions from camping tasks (tent stakes or light chopping) to food prep? Also has it held up well over time?

I love this knife! I got the stainless steel blade to use with a ferro rod and have used it extensively for all chores around camp. It touches up easily for a super sharp edge and the off set of the handle to blade saves your knuckles during food prep. The over all size is not to big not to small for any task.

Is this knife stainless?

This knife is not a Second. It is Stainless. If the knife is a second, an S is stamped on the back side of the blade, not the logo side..

Has anyone else had issues with the sheath coming apart or the retention flap being worn or cut after mild use?

I’ve never had issues with the sheath coming apart, however I do hold back the retention flap when I am drawing and sheathing the knife to prevent damaging the leather. If you think you have a defective sheath I recommend contacting Grohmann directly and I’m sure they can help you out. They also offer alternative style sheaths that may fit your needs a bit better than the one included with the knife. Hope this helped.

Are these knives the Grohmann “seconds”???

“S” means a second. It carries no warranty. They typically list at about half price on the Grohmann site. If it is a stainless model, it says “Stainless”.
