the main body is 1 inch in diameter, what is the diameter at the tip if I have to replace the tip with quad tip (base) which require a 3/4 inch tube.

the measurement of the upper portion of the cane is 7/8 inch, the lower portion is 3/4 inch.

What size replacement tip does this take? I'm confused about the sizes.

Take the old tip off and measure across the opening or just take it with to the store. That is how I do it.

Is this stable/good for walking up and down stairs that have no railing?

My son, who is 6' tall, has been using this for over a year, including up and down stairs. It provides good support, and has never resulted in stability problems for him.
