What's the difference between this style pen & the basic style other then the pen's barrel shape and price?

It's pretty much the same as any ballpoint pen. The flow is good, it's a large gauge so it's a thick line, and the barrel is thick, comfortable, and well balanced. I'd say that the main difference is just that this appeals to the folks that are picky about pens and stationery. I got the 3 pack with different colors and I love the feel and glide, but was disappointed with how often it skips.

Are the pins fraud resistant against check washing?

I do not believe they they are fraud proof.
